How to share server's internet connection to VPN?

Hi,

I am using a VPN connection from my Android phone to my home PC by using the "default" Windows 7 (Ultimate x64) VPN feature. The connection works fine, but when I connect with my phone running Android 2.3.6 to this VPN, I loose the Internet connection on my phone and am only able to access the home LAN. Since the Android client doesn't have much settings to configure in this area, I figured the solution to my problem would be if the VPN server could share it's Internet connection to the VPN.

Please how do I set this up on the server?

home pc is wireless as well.

Why not simply buy a wireless router?

why use VPN? Is the information so classified
the VPN is now setup as a connection from phone to/from pc. No need te secure it!! Or is there any need?

Because it's hard to connect to home WiFi when You're several km away I use the VPN to connect to Remote Desktop or to access shared folders on my home PC WHEN I AM NOT AT HOME. That's why I use VPN.

So your phone is several miles away from your home. You can connect to home over the vpn connection and use remote desktop.

Now I understand.

On win7:

• you have a tcp/ip address so network connection
• Over that connection you made a vpn server

that's all fine.

What is the ip-address of android phone?
default gateway?
subnet mask?

I hope you can see more ip-addresses in configuration

I don't know much about android. But when you configured vpn-client on android you answered some questions.
One of those is the ip address of vpn server.

But is there something like "use default gateway from vpn"? Don't check that!

Well, to your first question: On my phone, when connecting via 3G (cellular), I have a variable IP address. The internal address according to ifconfig should be 10.192.185.182, mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway SEEMS TO BE (I'm not really sure) 10.192.185.1

To the second question, there are very little options on Android VPN Client, these few options include only VPN Name, VPN Server address, checkbox to enable/disable PPTP encryption and "DNS search domains", which in my case is blank as I don't know what that is.. That's it. (It asks for credentials when connecting).

So you're connecting your phone using 3G to internet and has a 10.192.185.x address. default gateway is 10.192.185.y (I think .1 but not important).

Connect using vpn client and then start browser and browse to 173.194.67.147 (it's google) Does this work?

Built-in Android VPN client

Android phones generally include a built-in VPN client, which you’ll find in the Settings | Wireless & networks menu. It’s labeled VPN settings: Set up and manage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), as shown in Figure 1. The phone used for the screenshots is an HTC Thunderbolt running Android 2.2.1 (Froyo). However, Android has included VPN support since version 1.6 (Donut).

Android phones have a built-in VPN client

As you can see in Figure 2, you can select the type of VPN protocol to be used: PPTP, L2TP, L2TP/IPsec PSK, or L2TP/IPsec CRT. The last is most secure but requires a digital certificate. With L2TP/IPsec PSK, you can use a preshared key (a password). PPTP is the easiest type of VPN to set up, but it’s also the least secure.
If the VPN server requires certificates, you’ll need to download the proper certificates and store them on your phone. You can also install a certificate from your microSD card. You’ll need to set up the phone to use certificates. In the Settings menu, go to Security and check the box that says Use secure credentials.You should also set a password for the credential storage.

Select the VPN protocol(s) used by your VPN server

In any case, you’ll need some information to create the connection. The first step is to give your VPN connection a name to identify it (especially if you’ll be setting up more than one VPN connection — for example, one to connect to your home network and one to connect to your work network).
As you can see in Figure 3, you’ll need to set the VPN server by entering its public IP address. Encryption is enabled by default, and most VPN servers require it, so you’ll probably want to leave the box checked. The DNS search domainsfield is utilized if you need to use an internal DNS server (one that’s on your home or work network to resolve internal names) after you connect over the VPN.

Setting up a PPTP VPN requires completing only a few simple fields

Next, you’ll need to enter your user name and password — either domain credentials, if those are enabled on the VPN server, or credentials for a local account on the VPN server. Note that you might need to include the domain or VPN server name, separated by a backslash, as part of your user name (example: VPNServername\username).
Once you have all the information entered, just touch the Connect to networklink. If it’s configured correctly, you’ll get a message that your VPN is connected, as shown in Figure 4.

An icon that looks like a key will appear in the notification area at the top of your Android phone’s screen, which you can also see in Figure 4, fourth icon from the left. If you slide the notification pane down, you’ll see the message that your VPN is connected, as shown in Figure 5.

Yes, kind of. The 10.192.185.xxx seems to be some sort of internal IP, the result to query "what is my ip?" Google responds: 85.237.224.61.

When I go to googles IP (173....) it works fine when I'm not connected to VPN, but when I connect to the VPN it doesn't work.
That's why I need to pull the internet connection through VPN.

The built-in android vpn client routes all network packets over the vpn. Normally it shouldn't modify the default gateway in my opinion! It should only add an extra static route to the vpn server.

So your problem is unsolvable! Or take another vpn client

well that's my point! Since the Android VPN client routes all of the connections to the VPN (because in Android there is no option to select connection for each application separately) I need the VPN server on Windows to share it's Internet connection with the clients connected to VPN. --> How to do that?
