I have a vista 64bit -

after i renamed the user home folder i then logged onto the user account of the folder i had renamed. Turns out the account has been restored to default settings with none of the old files, etc.

When i go into the Users folder however, there is an additional folder entitled ''TEMP'' and the renamed folder is still there and is intact.

How do i restore the account/user to its previous state?

Please, please, please - any help would be greatly appreciated. I need this fixed ASAP.

Hello Fitzy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could log in to another administrator account, or enable the built-in administrator and log in to it if you don't have another one, then just rename the user folder back to what it was originally.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks Shawn,
I have tried naming the user folder back to the original name but this doesn't seem to be doing anything. I have two administrator accounts and am currently using the non-****ed one (pardon my french).

I am obviously hopeless on a computer - Is there any way to tie the intact user to a new account and delete the temporary default one that seems to have replaced it?

You could create a new account, copy any files and shortcuts you want from the old one to the new one. When finished, delete the old account.

If you would like to try and fix this one, then check the registry at step 11 in the tutorial below to make sure it has the correct user folder name. You would have to change all your personal settings again in the new account though.

If you are still getting the temp profile error, then see if the tutorial below may be able to help.
