vlc 1 rc will not update to 1.0.1

I love the VLC player. Always have. I am using it on all my Win 7 x86 & 64 systems. However today I noticed ther is an update available. In 64 it asks me for a folder (auto selects docs) I've tried several but it will not even begin the DL'd due to an error it posts to "write to the folder". Anyone else going through this?
Oh and on the x86 it begins the dl'd but crashes due to a write error @ the end as opposed to the start. I've tried updating in Admin mode btw. Really like to figure this one out. I need this player.

Solved

In order to avoid removing vlc 1.0.0 to update to 1.0.1 simply dl'd the new version. It will detect prior version,remove and install new version. Not exactly an in place update but damn close. I figured this out when my old dimension 7 series pulled off the dl'd (running x86) but then simply yanked the old prog and replaced. So I figure if this is the way videolan is doing it , good nuff.
