Solved Cannot use a Logitech QuickCam Express webcam in XP Guest...

Hi there people!!!!!!

Well, now I come with this "new" thing, within this days I was thinking on really drop my current dual boot in my desktop with XP (I barely use it), and istead of that, buiding a Virtual Machine with an XP Guest and all the drivers for my legacy software.

For that task, I decided to download VMware Player 4.0.3, I have VirtualBox, but I chhosed the first because it has parallel port support, and mu scanner need that to work

I've installed the virtual machine using Easy Install (looks a lot like XP Mode in this...) and everything went excellent, fast and nice. After VMware installed its tools by it's own, I started to install al necesary stuff and my legacy hardware drivers. My old Lexmark Printer went excellent as well as my CanoScan N340P scanner (slower than in real XP instalation... really don't know why... but works), the last is my old Logitech QuickCam Express webcam, but this last refuses to work, the virtual machine recognizes the device and installs the drivers properly, but whenever I try to acces the preview via Explorer, It shows a warning saying that I must check the came connection and see that any other app is not using the cam...

I checked that, and no app is using the camera, I still have my dual boot config, so I rechecked the camera and works perfectly on the real XP instalation, I can access it and see the image in there... but not in the VM...

I tried even instaling the latest software pack that Logitech released for XP (v8.4.8) but no luck so far, always the same message... I even tried updating Direct X (some webs said that doing this resolved the issue in real hardware) and also uninstalling VMware Tools and installing the camera without that (just in case a process from that utilities may be blocking the access) but always the same deal

After trying what I can do, I ask for help to the experts once more to see if I can solve this problem of mine... I hope is not a problem with webcam support in VMware, since VirtualBox has more or less the same issues, and they say that is related to the way they support USB's and that they will need to eventually fix and add support for more devices in the future...

Ha.... it seems that this particular one is a bit difficult... well... I gave up, I discovered that VMware has issues with certain USB devices, including some webcams (like this one)... This will take some time to them to fix it seems (just if its in their to-do list) as well as improving parallel port emulation to allow DMA access to the host (and thus, increasing velocity in the data tranfer rates) and adding the option to their bios to allow ECP+EPP mode...

After all this, I had luck and bought a new webcam that works flawlessly on 7, and only costs $8 USD ($89 pesos here in mexico) so I defenetely drop this webcam thing...
