Problem- Right click on anything and explorer crashes and restarts

Hello,
I am trying to run a few different repairs but they all require me to right click and then run as admin. My problem is that if I right click any Icon or desktop anything explorer crashes and restarts. I can not find any way to give myself admin access. I am the admin of the computer and logged in under my account but it does not matter what account I log in under it always crashes. Is there any other way to run the CMD sfc /scannow?

You can start up the System File Checker tool at the Start>Run command line. (refer to image attached)

That won't require any right clicking on anything. You could even add the Takeownership option to the right click menu but will need to first repair the present Windows installation since this sounds like one or more system files are corrupted.

The other thought on this is a possible malware infection leaving you with corrupted files like the explorer.exe sheil file used by Windows Explorer as well as the Computer desktop icon for browsing drives.

The problem sounds like you have an infected system. Download MBAM from the link below and be sure to choose the Free version, then run a scan on the computer. If you are unable to initiate a scan, post back for additional help.

Right-click reset problems

There is a wonderful program Shellexview which allows you to 1) Sort all context items by Microsoft (Yes/N0), click on the heading to sort until all non-Microsoft contexts are at the top. 2) Disable each non-Microsoft context item one at a time, then test by right-clicking to see if does not reset. Once you have found your culprit, then enable all except that one.

NirSoft has a number of great programs found on their site not to mention the ShellExView v1.76

I got same problem in 2011 it is one of the worst problem


i try many things but finally I restore my win 7 from 2 weeks old backup image
u must try restoring win 7 from ur backup which is last option

I did realize that the tread was old, it is just that I was searching for a solution to this problem and Google gave me this thread. As I was able to solve the problem without reloading windows, I thought maybe others gogglers would find this answer helpful.
