Hi,

I recently brought a Dlink DNS-320 and have searched the relevant forums for that product but all the solutions for resolving a 'map network drive error' have been unsuccessful.

I have tried mapping the drive on this product using the IP address and I can ping the IP address for this device, the device also appears on my network via UPnP but I unfortunately I get a error message when trying to map the network drive the DNs-320 also came with a storage utility to map drives but that doesn't work either.

I have gone through previous posts and tested this without my firewall on or changing the TCP/IP settings. So If anyone can offer any potential help that would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Within your D-Link NAS's settings under Users, did you create the User Names and Passwords that's identical to all the User Names and Passwords of the all Users from your network? These are the ones that will have to access the shared folders in your NAS. NAS folders will also need to be created and then after you have created the Users credentials you will assign these Users the access permission (Read, Read/Write, None).

Hi,

The only user is me but I have now matched the user name and passwords to what I would use for my actual PC, all the folders on the NAS volumes have read/write function assigned unfortunately I still have the same issue.

From the problematic computer, please click on the Start button and type \\NASIPAddress\SharedFolder or \\NASName\SharedFolder press enter after. Did the same error pop up?

Yes unfortunately I get the same error message.

It also kinda just dawned on me that my PC and NAS drive are connected to the same router, but this router connects to the internet from another one the also works as the broadband internet from Virgin. Is it possible I have to change some settings on the first router as Windows 7 maps my PC and NAS drive as being connected to a switch (my linksys router) which then shows the that being connected to the 'gateway' which is the Virgin media router.

As long as they are on the same subnet (IPs) there's no issue there. The error that you are getting is a common one. Others have luck on disabling a firewall or security software. Also, make sure that Netbios is enabled from your computer.

Have you restarted the NAS and also your computer?

Ok thanks for the clarification for the LAN settings the subnet mask is the same (255.255.255.0) but under basic settings it shows 255.255.252.0 for the WAN subnet, I cannot edit this but assume it doesn't matter?

Yeah they have both been reset multiple times, I checked the Netbios and it is still on as I activated it from a suggestion in another forum for a similar case.

Any Security software (Norton, McAfee, Webroot, etc..) installed from the computer?

From the router setting?
but under basic settings it shows 255.255.252.0 for the WAN subnet,

I tired it with windows firewall disabled. I Know I have Avira, Spybot, and Malwarebytes installed so I guess I should try it with everything disabled regardless whether it provides a firewall or not?

It shows it on the basic settings for WLAN but on the LAN settings the default is 255.255.255.0, but I have never had a issue with finding other PC's, notebooks, game consoles etc with this set up previously.

I am away for the next few days and not back till Sunday, so I will have to try these then, but thanks for your help so far.

Can you please post an ipconfig /all for review?
Click on Start button then type cmd , see on the top right click on it and choose Run as Administrator. From the black screen, type the word ipconfig /all and press enter. Right click on the black screen or Command prompt then choose Select All and Paste the results on your next post.

You are right, but can you change the second DNS on your NAS and replace it with this one 194.168.4.100?

Strangely I used a Windows 7 repair disc as there was a slight issue with another OS I installed causing a conflict on my boot screen. Crazily enough it solved my network issue as I can see the NAS on the network and was able to map the drives successfully.

So all seems to be fine now, thanks for all your help.
