Privileges of a Standard User

Hello community,

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and I have a problem regarding User Accounts.

Let's say I am account A on this computer. This is an administrator account without a password. When I went into the control panel, I demoted Account B to a standard user. Apparently, however, account B can simply change this setting even though she is a standard user. Is this true? Even when I set a password for my account, account B can still bypass it or demote me. Why is this? :sarc:

That's odd, you've booted into account B and checked this? I remember messing around with the user accounts a while ago and I remember confirming that normal account users can't escalate themselves to admin, or even touch other accounts. Was the same OS as yours, Win7 x64 HP.

If you put a password on account A (the admin one) does this still happen?

I have checked by going into account B. I am experiencing the same problem even with a password. :(

Welcome
I think that your answer would be to make a new standard account. You should be given the option to transfer settings etc from another user. I think that your problem would be solved.

I tried creating a new standard user account (account C) as a test, but when I went into this account and tried to delete my account (account A, the admin one), it would actually let account C do this.

I don't understand!

I'll ask the stupid questions:

  1. Did you restart between tests? It shouldn't matter, it's just a sanity check.
  2. Have you tweaked your system in any way? Please provide any tweaks applied to your system.

edit: Screenshots of the UAC for each user might help too.

Peace!

I did not tweak my OS in any way. My UAC notification setting is the default, so no message boxes appear when changing settings.

I hope the gurus drop by soon, this is a very interesting situation. Tried it on several of the work machines here in the office (Win7 x32 HP, Win7 x32 Pro, Win7 x64 Pro) and confirmed that standard user accounts should not be able to elevate themselves to admin or touch other accounts.

Sorry couldn't help, good luck.
