A few weeks ago it was required for me to install a program which could would work if i had installed net framework 1.1.

At that time i had net framework 4.0, the program i required to install was nessesary for my school and i spent a lot of effort installing net framework 1.1, which was not an easy task. it wasn't possible installing it a normal way, and i ended up going in Comand Prompt as administrator and fixing 2 installations at the same time or something like that. Can not recall it very well.

The net framework 1.1 required updating and at the start of my computer booting it would generally ask me Accept of Decline the update possibility. This request has disappeared. I noticed when i would accept the update it infact wouldnt update anything and would not let me install anything cause it was apparently bizzy with updating.

This issue has now worsen over time, it does not ask me if i accept the update at all.

Now i cannot install or uninstall any programs, i have tried too install Java, and ableton. both failed, when i want too install something it says i do not have enough disk space. The same thing happens when i want too uninstall a program it says make sure u have enough disk space. i have 193 GB out of the 284 GB, i think i would have enough space for Java.

The netframework 1.1 clean up tool does not help me.

I hope i dont have too format my pc, and that the kind people of this forum can help me solve my computer issues.

With kind regards i wait patiently.

If your Windows Seven edition supports XP mode try using that to run .NET 1.1. Also I would contact the school and tell them using this obsolete software is endangering everyone's set up. Nobody still alive programs for .NET 1.1.

If you can't use XP Mode try Virtual Box. It's free. If you have trouble getting it to work try the Virtualization subforum here. It's getting the first one to work that can be difficult, like most things. I've gotten Virtual Box to work. But I've never tried XP Mode. I'm told that's the easiest. And XP is a lot closer to .NET 1.1 than Seven is.

Also whateverf software they are making you use I would search for an upgrade. The teacher may be just too lazy to look.

Hello iBeyondPower and welcome to Seven Forums.

According to Microsoft, if you already had .NET Framework 4.0 installed, it would have retained the features from the previous versions and added new features.

.NET Framework Versions and Dependencies

Trying to completely remove .NET Framework can be an exercise in futility. Couple of resources you can look through. The first is a Microsoft Answers forum thread and references the uninstall tool developed by Aaron Stebner who blogs for the Microsoft Developement Network. Although the date of Stebner's article is Aug 2008, it's been updated to include .NET Framework 4.

If you're able to remove framework you can download the latest and greatest here:

Another option you could try is a Repair Install which should preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc.

I used the microsoft fixit program too delete net framework 1.1,

I still cant install anything tho.

also when i try Microsoft fix-it to help me fix installation issues, it lists me a the programs which i ALREADY have installed, of which i might have installation problems with.

when its not in the list, cause u want to install that program, and u don't have it already ( why install it again .. ), it doesn't not solve it.

The message remains, u do not have enough disk space.

If you can put your system back the way it was I would still use virtualization. The new program you are trying to use is likely the only one that's going to use .NET 1.1. So why mess up your whole system for one app? Run the app in a virtual machine.

Also you don't fill in your system specs. The 20 questions game about what you have to work with is really boring. If you can't bother then I lose interest.

20 question game?

Packerd Bell EasyNote TJ65

Pentium dualcore CPU 2.30 GHz

4,00 GB ram

anyways, i would not like too format my pc, or put it back like the way it was. I have tried system recovery but it cannot find a date before that, altho i will look again, maybe it will find more dates if i do it in the bootscreen.

The program i was required too install was a ladder diagram tool for a class i no longer have. I do not want too use VMware regardless.

Issue remains that i cannot install java, or ableton, or anything what so ever.

the message i get: make sure u have enough disk space, retry or cancel. I could take a printscreen if that is desired.

if i would use VMware my pc could only work correctly in that station. this is not a reall solution. Using windows 7 within windows 7, lovely. Also installing this Virtual machine might cause frustration since i cannot install anything ( see thread title )

edit: cannot go back to before i installed the netframework 1.1 the first time ( the last installation i was able to make ) bootscreen gives same options or dates, which go only back 1 month aprox

If you look in the corner on the site you see Quick Links. If you click there then on Profile you'll see next to your icon System Specs. That way everybody pushes the little button at the bottom of all your posts that says "System Specs" and they don't have to hunt for it. Also you don't say what version of Windows you are running. That would decide if you can use XP Mode or not. I think I'm done here. Too much work.

My advice use XP Mode if you can get it. If you can't use Virtual Box.
