Very high CPU temperatures on stock speeds

Hey all.

Since I got my new setup, temps have gone up like crazy and I cannot find the source of the problem. Using Prime95, my 955BE goes as high as 65-70 degrees celcius. This is at standard clock and voltage, which are 3200mHz and ~1.35v.

The cooler I use is: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro and thermal paste: Cooler Master something. Case fans are turned up to medium instead of low and the heatsink seems to be placed correctly.

With my old motherboard (M4A77) and this exact same cooler, temps would stabilize at ~54 degrees at full load.

Did you apply the TIM correctly? Too much can lead to a heat isolation effect, rather than a heat conducting one.

The size of a pea, spread over the CPU is the correct amount, right? I used Cooler Master High Performance.

I'm also experiencing a delay on boot before the system shows the Windows login screen. Going to reseat the cpu and cooler using different thermal paste (Arctic Freezer). I'll report back for the results! ;)

Ok, so with the Arctic Freeze MX-2 thermal compound temperatures stall at around 62 degrees celcius at full load. Still not what I am looking for, but far better than the 70 degrees I had before.

So my final question is: does the thermal paste improve it's effect over time?

All fans PWM; speeds at idle: CPU circa 500 rpm; intake circa 600 rpm; exhaust circa 600 rpm; CPU temps 27 idle and 47 C load in a warm room (27 C/81 F) when running Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stress test.
Some compounds get better over time; about 2 deg. C and others don't change. Some recommend a break in period and some don't. Check their Web Site for specs.
