purchased March 2012 (3 months ago) @ Costco - full purchase w/ OEM

HP Pavilion dv6-6c43cl Entertainment Notebook PC
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Service Pack 1
Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50 GHz
8 GB RAM / 700 GB HB

I've tried and I've tried to get the system health to open but I can't. I'm just too old, and an amish/chinese to boot. I've worked hours to get this perfect for you as this is my husbands computer and he is really a computer ditz soooo if you can tell me how to get past the admin bit, I'll do it. I did go to cmd and run as admin and typed the net thing and tried it again but to no avail....

the BSOD has been happening almost since the beginning with the first HP update. we both had new computers, I had no difficulty with mine, he did so I returned his and there were no more of that model so I got a different model and the same thing happened so I'm thinking that it is a 'user' error.

thank you so much for your help. us elderly need it more and more.... ugh!

Hello roxbits. Welcome to Seven Forums. I have looked at your file upload and there does not seem to be any .dmp files in it. The .dmp files are the ones we need to analyze the BSODs. To ensure that they are being generted, please follow these instructions;

Go to Start and type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Startup and Recovery Settings button
Ensure that "Write an event to the system log" is checked
Ensure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked
Under the Write Debugging Information header select "Small memory dump (64 kB)" in the dropdown box
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as "%systemroot%\Minidump" (without the quotes)
Click OK twice to exit the dialogs, then reboot for the changes to take effect.

Give it a few days, let some more BSODs occur and repost with the original steps you took the first time, in this same thread.

One more thing for you to do, try running http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
you should do this three times. Reboot after each run. And let us know if any repairs are made.

Thank you James, I have done as requested and will send a report when the next BSOD happens. I have completed the sfc / scannow x3 as instructed and have received the message: "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations" all three times. I also tried to do another perfmon /report with the elevated command prompt but i still get an 'access denied' :(

Again, thanks and I will send the next download when the horrible thing happens.
