hi,

i intend to do a clean install of win7 64bit. i currently have vista32 on my primary 500gb hd. i want to move my data onto my secondary 320gb hd so that i can clean install on the 500gb ... but i still want to access the data on the 2nd (vista32) HD.

i want to use the win7 HD in a new pc i have built. so:

1. how best to move my data to the second HD so that it can be read by the primary?
2. will there be a problem reading the second HD in a new set up (mobo, cpu etc)?
3. should i format the 500gb and then put it in the new setup then do the clean install?
3b. if i should do that - should i partition it first?

would really appreciate your expert help. thanks

Create a data partition on your secondary HD, copy the User folders into it after sorting all of your data into them correctly.

After confirming all of your data is there in the secondary HD Data partition, unplug it during Clean Install Windows 7 to the target HD: Boot the installer, use Custom Install drive options to delete all partitions on the if you don't need them as shown in illustrated steps in the blue link.

Then after Win7 install plug back in the data HD. If you want to keep your data on the secondary HD and link it to Win7 rightclick on each User folder to add it to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums.

If you want to copy the data into the Win7 OS User folders then open each from the data drive, from Organize tab Select All, then drag the file group to the corresponding Win7 User folder under your User name in the C drive. Make sure you hold the left click until the left-hand Explorer bar finishes unfolding and confirms you're copying to the exact folder wanted.
