Live Security Platinum virus strikes

I just got a virus this week, after having not had one since the mid 90s and that one coming off a floppy from work. The virus this week is called Live Security Platinum. I was looking for some weight lifting advice and clicked on a link in Bing search which then took me to a site that did not look suspicious. As I started to read, Malwarebytes came up with a message that an attack had been attempted and I then clicked on the Quarantine button, and left the site quickly. Still, the damn thing infected this box.

Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, MRT, and Microsoft Safety Scanner all say the computer is clean now and I've checked the Registry for remnants but it looks like Malwarebytes cleaned it thoroughly. Still there's one behavior that wasn't there before and that is the desktop icons always go to the default size rather than the small I choose. Microsoft speaks of the icons not arranging themselves properly after bing in Safe Mode and I've found some mention by others who have the size problem without mention of a virus infection. I've tried alot of things to solve the problem including rebuilding the ShellIconCache and using a Restore point, but no luck.

I'm left wondering if a remnant of the virus is still present or if this problem isn't just a hard to solve quirk from going into Safe Mode. I don't recall however having the problem before after going into Safe Mode.

Thoughts?

Edit: I should mention that my Admin account and any new account I make does not have the icon size problem.

It wouldn't hurt to do a scan with Windows Defender Offline. This is a boot disk which will scan your system at start up. If you can, make it on another PC that is clean & run it on the suspect PC.

What is Windows Defender Offline?

The virus may have damaged some of your files. Try running a SFC to see if any of them need to be repaired. Make sure to run it 3X as it doesn't always fix things the first time around.

Thanks for the reply. I have run sfc three times with nothing found there. I'm going to try Windows Defender Offline later when I've more time. Since the other user accounts are fine I'm thinking the box is clean and I've a quirk.
