Screen resolution problem

New member
While I was playing a game, a message popped up and said I needed to change to 1680 X 1050.
I did that, but was not able to see part of the screen.
I went back to check the setting and it showed 800 X 680.

This happened again, even after a reboot.

I have an Acer x223 W.
Any advice appreciated.

Can I ask which game is affected by this problem you're having? Is it just one game or is it a global problem?

Also your system specs indicate you're using an Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated solution for your graphics card (which comes on the i7 processor i believe), but i reckon you're using a powerful dedicated AMD/NVIDIA graphics card for your main graphics card as your rig seems to be build for gaming.

Can you add the dedicated graphics card to your system specs so that we can narrow the problem down more easily?

Hi Solarmystic, (Great Name!!)

I don't have a dedicated graphics card.
Just a chip built in to the Motherboard.

The game was called Slamtilt Pinball.

Okay... just to clarify,

Are you playing Slamtilt Pinball (which was a game made in the late 90s - early 00s for windows 98), or a modern remake SlamIt Pinball (SlamIt Pinball : Big Score • Home page) by Technetium games?

They both have issues with Windows 7 that need resolving.

Ah okay then,

Have you tried the requisite compatibility settings before running the game?

Right click on the game's executable and select it to run under Windows XP compatibility

Trying the color / resolution settings in that compatibility dialogue might be a good idea as well...

If all else fails... you've got to disable DirectDraw acceleration in DirectX for just that application by using this nifty tool for Windows 7 from the Direct X SDK

Unzip the attachment using WinRAR/Winzip/7zip, open the directory, double click on dxcpl.exe, go to the DirectDraw tab and untick Use Hardware Acceleration. Just a heads up, this option may break compatibility with other legcay (old ) graphical applications so use it as a last resort. But you can easily revert it by ticking the option again and clicking apply.

To answer your question, i'm not very sure.. it could just be a quirk of the ancient software (in computing years).... If it's only localized to that particular game

Try and experiment around with 256 colors (ticking it on or off) or even 640 x 480 resolution... thats what i meant...
