Use a can of compressed air, such as sold at Sam's Clubs/Costco and many office supply stores, to blow out the dust bunnies. A small, non static, brush will also help.

and look up your specific model (the full model number is a little more than just dv6) as HP quite often has the service manual for them listed, and they show what is needed to clean it.

Thank you all! I will try the can of compressed air along with a brush. My initial concern was that a can of air may blow the dust "deeper".

For a laptop, i would first use a vacuum to pull dust out before using compressed air that blows dust back in.

The video shows after blowing in from the outside, cleaning is done inside with the DESKTOP open.
It also says dust inside may cause shorts...

If you clean a LAPTOP by blowing at dust in the vents from the outside only, where does that dust go?
It may be immediate/short term help with a cooling problem, but that dust is now inside the laptop.

Are you are willing to open up the laptop for cleaning?
If not, and you don't want to vaccum, i would use Qtips to clean the vents before using compressed air.

I've seen some posts in SF with excellent LAPTOP cleaning advice.
If i can find them, i'll post links.
If i remember correctly they use a vacuum and compressed air...

This is just me, but it works really well. Now don't laugh...I use a leaf blower to blow out desktops....it's fast, very thurough and no static build up. I stand about 2-3 feet away and let the dust fly...out side of course. I said don't laugh.....it works. I've been doing this for about 5 years now. Save's a lot of money on cans of compressed air.
