My husband and I are trying to restore his W7 Home Premium OS on his HP laptop and it got stuck on intializing the restore. We do not have the OS disks, but I have the OS disk for my Dell laptop for Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Should we try to restore from my set of disk? Or is it taboo to mix manufactures?

Everything you need is here to reinstall the HP without the crippling bloatware and useless factory utilities which have better versions built into Win7 itself: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

You can also try running Factory Recovery again: HP Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

If it fails see if Recovery Manager will run Hardware Diagnostics: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00849402&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en

If neither HP Recovery nor Hardware Diagnostics will still run from their partitions then I would delete all partitions during the booted install shown in Clean Reinstall tutorial.

Thanks gregrocker. We will try this out when we get back home in a couple of weeks.
