Hi all
Isn't the Olympic Games meant to be a FREE International Sporting festival

Then Why do I get this B/S

( I Know via using a private VPN I can get round it -- but surely the Olympics is a WORLD WIDE sport festival whatever Coco Cola and Macdonald's might think).

Here's my screenshot BEFORE using the VPN (and I'm in Brussels so if the EU means anything at all broadcasts from ANY member state should be freely available to viwers in any other state.

What makes this even MORE stupid is that Brussels Cable TV actually has BBC1/2//3/4 on the cable system anyway so if I can get TV why should they block Internet transmissions from the country they are transmitting to anyway.

C'mon Lawyers - we normally don't like you guys but surely you'd get kudos here for sorting out this total pile of Dog Poo.

Cheers
jimbo

Well that sucks but uh... who ever said the Olympics were "free"? And who is paying for all that streaming equipment and bandwidth if it's all free for everyone?

Seems most likely that there is a more local media outlet to you for the streaming so the BBC is bowing out because you are supposed to use someone else instead. These are private enterprises, not governments that are streaming and rebroadcasting this stuff.

It's a thin ledge to stand on claiming "GREED" on someone else's behalf when you are demanding something for free :/

Hi there
the Cable system actually transmits BBC1/2/3/4 here anyway so there isn't a problem with delivering content -- it's just that why do they then block the Internet streams -- it's simple enough to determine if content is being delivered to the country in question then they should allow it on the Internet as well.

It's this sort of B/S that keeps the pirates alive.

I'm not demanding "Free access" although in Europe the Olympic Games have been declared as one of those events that have to be made available to FTA (Free to Air) TV services which include BBC1 and BBC 2.

It just seems nonsensical when I can get this legally via Cable TV in my area I can't get the same thing on the Internet without a bit of fiddling around with external VPN's.

We all want to enjoy the Olympic games from whatever country you come from -- surely nothing wrong with that.

Cheers

Not greed, I pay my yearly TV tax to fund the BBC so why should they show it to you who doesn't pay?

Hi there
Actually I Have paid a BBC licence -- good value for money too IMO -- probably one of the best broadcasting organisations on the entire planet.

Even though I'm not in the UK that often I have a UK address that I get both SKY TV and pay for the BBC.

Normally I'd agree with you 100% but in this case I HAVE paid.

Well if you pay it just think how much it would cost you to deliver it to the rest of the world for free, I dont use the service and tbh I dont particularly like the service but am forced to pay the TV tax anyway.

For the record the only thing I use the BBC for is the weather on it's website, which BTW is pretty much always wrong!!!

Actually Weather in UK must be quite simple -- last time I was in London it was almost 4 seasons in one day so any combination of Rain, Snow, Hail or Sun would have been correct. I'd suspect that probably on average for around 250 days out of 366 weather in Central UK is probably dry-ish and overcast grey. So the probability of being correct is at least 1 - ( 250 / 366 ) which beats any bookies odds by an enormous margin -- good for a punt at the bookies next time I'm in London.

Enjoyed BTW the GB Ladies Field Hockey against S. Korea at the Olympics tonight - well done Ladies ( 3-1 to team GB) -- and some of the female gymnastics was almost unbelievable too (as well as the "other qualities" of those Young Ladies as well). In my Pub the men were almost having "Wet dreams" while watching that event and the Aus V Netherland Womens Beach Volleyball!!!!
