Negative!! The recovery disk that you made makes no difference because the license number on your new setup is only set to activate Home Basic. Using the license number from the first laptop on this new machine is illegal, and I think there are certain members of this forums admins who point out that they don't tolerate anyone telling you how to get around this issue, anyhow...

Sorry

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
No you can't. I guess you'd better contact your laptop vendor to look for a backup file.

When I was working for a particular laptop repair company earlier this year, this is exactly what we were doing to reimage replacement harddrives.
It was left up to the customer to enter their product key when they recieved it back.

Oops, just re-reading the OP, different OS... it will work. BUT you will need a new license/key for the Home Basic. The Home Premium one wont work.
If you reimage with a Home Premium recovery disc, you should be OK, as you already have a license to use it.

I personally dont like recovery CD's because they are filled with the bloatware from the Vendor.
I'd suggest getting/borrowing a retail copy of Home Premium disc, use your existing license key, then downloading your machines drivers from the Vendor's website.
