New motherboard - do I need to uninstall chipset driver

When switching motherboards, is there a need to uninstall the chipset drivers before installing the new ones?

I am going to try a P55 mobo and i7860 because I can.

Where would I find these? Device manager? What device is the "chipset"?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Nate,

It would be best to uninstall them first, but sometimes changing the motherboard may also require a clean reinstall instead.

You can try to uninstall while attached to the old mother board.
>Power the machine off.
>Unplug the machine, and hold the power button down for 30 seconds to relive and stray energy, (dont want you getting hurt now XD).
>Install the new board.
>Boot up, insert Win7 disk
>run repair install.

This should replace the old drivers with the new ones needed by the new mother board.
If that doesn't work boot into safe mode and run automatic updates.

Last resort fresh install remember to backup first.

What is the chipset in device manager? I know this is a dumb question to many but I really would not know how to uninstall the chipset drivers. I have never had to do this.

I can also do a clean install. Goodness knows I've done that a few times.

If you know, what am I looking for....The 1st device "computer"?

You may also find that Windows 7 will install a new chipset for the motherboard, without having to uninstall the last.

You could boot into safe mode, run device manager, then uninstall any drivers you believe are no longer in use

Oh thank you mckillwashere. I will try those directions those directions if I run into problems. I may just try booting and see what happens.....I t should not hurt anything.

Oh, nevermind, I found them. "show hidden devices" and there are tons of them....

Nate, be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose first though to be safe.
