Hi all

I have the Leadtek winfast pvr2000 tv card and it works under vista 32b without problems.
I installed the seven rtm 32b and I met problems with this card.

Windows 7 freezes with a black screen during channel scan. All is locked, no mouse, and keyboard led doesn't work respond (capslock, numlock...)
Same behaviour under mce and winfast (leadtek tv app). Win start scanning, and after 10 seconds, screen goes black and hdd led stopped and I must reset the pc.
I tried the 5.13.22.6115 whql driver (vista 32b) without success. I also tried to find a generic conexant cx2388x driver for seven, but I don't.
I saw on some forums that it seems to work sometimes.

Does someone manage to make it work ?

MB: Asus m4a78 htpc, Athlon X2, pvr2000 pci card, 1GB corsair DDR2-800

Here is the answer from Leadtek:

Dear customer!

Thanks for your contact.
Unfortunately, it has already phased out for a long time.
So the chip of it might not be supported to Windows 7.
But you can try to use the driver for Vista to install.
Sorry for your inconvenience.

Latest vista driver (5.13.22.6115) doesn't work in seven. But, some people manage to make it work by installing it under vista and migrate to seven. The driver 'migrates' and works with seven.
So there is some way to install this driver under seven so that it works.
If someone has an idea ?

You can try installing it under administrator or compatibility mode. Also some people have have success with drivers installing in safe mode.

hmmm

I'm not sure it will change something... the driver install correctly without errors. Device manager is clean.
It is just when I want to use it that it crashes.

Anyway, I will try to install it in safe mode.

After that, I will try to use DriverMax (I found this tool in a sticky topic). It can backup a vista installed driver and re-install it under seven.

And at last, I will install a new vista, the driver and upgrade to seven :(

I uninstalled all pvr2000 drivers and re-install them in safe mode (I can only install 2 of them, the others don't appear in safe mode).

I reboot in normal mode and install other ones. The channel scanning always crash the pc.

I installed a new fresh vista, and I will try tonight to migrate the drivers from vista to seven.

Thank you for your help.

5.13.22.6115 is the vista 32 driver I used. I also find some other files, but none of them work. 5.13.22.6115 is the last driver and afaik, no more driver will be produced. :(

I install these drivers manually, from the device manager. There is no compatibility mode to use here. And the installation finishes without errors or compatibilty problems.

Tonight, I will install the driver on my fresh vista 32 and then export it with driverMax and import it in seven...

I installed vista 32b with pvr2000 latest drivers and... same thing

It seems my new mb m4a78 doesn't like this tv card :(
(No problems with my old asus m2npv-vm.)

I will make some search on that problem, but as the mb is quite new, it is unlikely that I find something...

It works for me on Windows 7 64bit. I had to change the driver names in the inf file and rename the vista drivers to get windows to accept it. There is always the risk that it will crash in the future (i.e. there must have been a reason why the drivers were blocked in the first place); but so far so good.

I've attached a rar file with my drivers and a quick readme file if you want to make your own (for slightly different circumstances). Use at your own risk (of course)

Enjoy

Sorry for the late reply, I am packing to move overseas. I will try to get online as much as I can to help you out.

I had a look at my system, my sound works. Check the three basic areas of failure (shown below).
I had to muck around a bit to select the correct devices to direct my sound both and and out of the PVR.

===============================================================
Check WINDOWS 7 SOUND SETTINGS

Right click on the volume icon in the win7 taskbar
First lets check the playback device without PVR.
Open 'Playback Devices' right click on the 'default device' and click test, if it works go
to the next step, if not change your default device or speakers and troubleshoot until this works.

Click on the 'Recording' tab, if PVR is on, you should see movement in the default device sound-bar. If not change this until you see movement in the default device sound-bar.
-------------------------------------------
Check PVR SOUND SETTINGS

Ensure that the same devices as selected in your Win7 sound settings are the devices in your PVR settings, or that sound is forwarded correctly through your system is alternate devices are selected.

Here's my configuration....
=MY PVR=
PLAYBACK = Speakers
RECORDING = Line In (High Def)

=MY WIN7=
Playback = SPeakers
Recording = Line in (High Def)
* Make sure on the Recording tab that you tick the 'Listen to this device' check box otherwise you won't get any audible output.

-------------------------------------------
Check Physical connections and hardware

- A fault here is unlikely given that it worked prior to installing WIn7 but....Just to be safe, if you have spare hardware, replace each cable/device one at a time (an isolation test) to verify that there is no fault here.

Good Luck

Tim

Hey Tim :) I've downloaded your modified drivers for my PVR2000. They are correctly installed and are working with WinFast PVR 2, but they don't work with MediaPortal or the Windows Media Center (there sometimes, but often got an error about low bitrate) :( Do you know a solution? I can't get multiple tuners (I have two of the pvr2000) working. I hope you have an idea :) Anyway, your drivers are great, thought I have to buy a new tv card.

Hi flashkidsf,

Can you please post a screen print of the error message? I want to see if it looks familiar. Cheers.

BTW - I have a step by step list that I wrote for personal use to set up the PVR2000. There may be a faster way, but you're welcome to try, this always gets it installed for me. Uninstall yours first and reboot.

1. Install old PVR (20319)with the Vista drivers
2. Reboot
3. Force install the new(-ish) drivers that I altered. Do this via device manager.
4. Install the latest PVR2 (20332)
5. Install the latest sound drivers for your sound card from the manufacturers website (not MSUPDATE).
6. Reboot.

Thanks for your fast reply :)
Here is the screenshot of Mediaportal:
and of Media Center It's German, I try to translate it: Low Bitrate The capture of data through the tuner was finished. Make sure, that the driver is installed correctly and that the software drivers are up to date. Should the problem persist, reboot your computer and repeat the event.

I can't use your step by step list, because I can't install any other drivers than your, because Leadtek doesn't provide a 64-bit driver for the PVR2000. How have you got it installed?

EDIT: Damn, I have no sound in WinFast PVR2 :( I have not recognized it yesterday, because I thought it would work properly :(

Hi flashkidsf,

Mine is definitely running on a 64 bit OS. However, I never experienced this error and I have reinstalled Win7 twice. Did you already have codecs installed on the machine? The bit rate problem may be caused by ffdshow or some other encoder, try uninstalling all codecs and then reinstalling PVR2. Try also running the PVR2 installation file in XP compatibility and as an administrator, then after installation make the same changes to the PVR2 exe (you can do this by right clicking on the exe or shortcut and altering the compatibility tab).
Once we get it working, we can reinstall the codecs. These are good drivers here.

About your sound, a common issue is the incorrect drivers. In this scenario the sound works for everything 'except' PVR2. Did you download your sound drivers from the manufacturers website? or just let windows update and install it automatically? As you didn't fill out your system specs I can't see what sound card you are using; but this issue often occurs with onboard realtek sound devices. Go to the manufacturers website and try the correct drivers.

Good Luck!
