Hey all, I have been trying to troubleshoot an issue I am complete stumped. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit HTPC that I use daily for media (living in China it is rough to get US TV). For the past few days it has been randomly rebooting after about 45-60 minutes. After reboot it gives a blue screen and an inaccessible boot device error. I shut down the PC complete, turn back on, and it boots up fine. After about an hour, it happens again. Not sure if it is a hardware or software issue, I just find it strange that it happens every time after a certain number of minutes, then I reboot and the problem goes away.

I have ran CHKDSK with both options, it found no errors on my system drive. I also ran a Windows repair from my install CD, the issue still occurs. Not sure if maybe it is a hardware issue, just think it is strange that it happens in that ~50 minute window every time.

Attached is the tool results, would appreciate any help you can give.

After another lockup instead of shutting down I did a soft reboot. After reboot I get the error:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. Choose you language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer"

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000e

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

After a hard reboot it works fine again.

Probably caused by : EtronXHCI.sys ( EtronXHCI+afe2 ) = Etron USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller Driver
This is my 1st time so do not expect best of me, if i cannot figure this out i will get someone better to help.
That is pointing at the usb 3.0 drivers. I 1st want to suggest updating them here
Etron Technology Inc.
Should be one of the host controllers, i cannot tell as to which model it is based on the current information. If you can find out which of these it is
EJ168 = Etron Technology Inc.
EJ188 = Etron Technology Inc.
EJ198 = Etron Technology Inc.
Download the appropriate one (found near bottom of the above links) , to update the drivers. If not you can also go into device manager and temporarily disable the USB port to see if the computer can make it past its 50 minute mark.
To do so open device manager and right click the usb 3.0 Host controller port and press disable.

I downloaded the latest drivers, all three controllers all point to the same setup file on the manufacturers site. After running the setup it said that the driver install failed and to contact the manufacturer.

I disabled the device, rebooted, and the problem occured again.

I have now completely disabled the USB3.0 Controller in BIOS and will see how it works.

Thanks!

Good move, if that works post back. Because that is a temporary fix and i want to try to possibly get the usb 3.0 up and able to run. Unless u don't mind using slower 2.0 ports and having an unusable 3.0. Anyways post back with how that goes:)

I did some research and the website does not have the latest drivers -_-
Last try before i get a mastermind in here.
1. Download this driver(most up to date compatible version i could find): Removed link
2. extract the drivers to a new folder, name does not matter and location does not matter.
3. Go into programs and features and look for a Etron 3.0 uninstall if it is there. If not leave it be.
4. Go to device manager and right click uninstall the etron usb 3.0
5. now got to where you extracted the files in step 2, and select the setup and install it.
6. go to device manager check to see if the etron usb 3.0 is there. If so, see if your computer runs fine from now. If it is not there, also see how the computer runs.

ok

1. Disable the "Windows Search Service"

2. Disable the below from startup

IAStorIcon REG_SZ C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology\IAStorIcon.exe
Adobe ARM REG_SZ "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"
NBAgent REG_SZ "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero BackItUp & Burn\Nero BackItUp\NBAgent.exe" /WinStart

ASRockXTU REG_SZ
uTorrent REG_SZ "C:\Program Files (x86)\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe" /MINIMIZED

3. Uninstall the Etron driver you installed now ... to this version which is currently supported by the motherboard... This driver is dated 2/20/2011...

4. What is connected to this USB port ???

Completed all requested steps, also ensured version 1.0.0.96 (1/2011) was installed after uninstalling other versions. Same issue, This device cannot start. (Code 10)

BIOS Settings
USB 3.0 Controler - Enabled
USB 3.0 Legacy Support - Disabled

There are no devices plugged into the 3.0 ports, only a few devices (external HDD, Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard) plugged into 2.0 ports.

Uninstalled the old version, installed 0.101. It immediately put up a BSOD, did a CHKDSK, and then rebooted. Strange part is after the reboot I don't see any components with issues (no failed to start messages)... but I also don't see a 3.0 Controller in device manager. It all looks normal, its just not there.

I will let you know if it locks up again over the next hour.

weird I just looked at the driver inf file and it shows like this
