Hi, my laptop has just recently been fixed and I realized a few programs, like the touch pad lighting up when placing your finger on it, and the sound buttons go loud and quieter at a very small speed. I also noticed every now and then the typing takes me off of where I was typing. How should I go about this? Thanks greatly for help ^^

offscott,
The joys of dealing with a repair shop-a mixed bag.

These places sometimes, intentionally or unintentionally, infect your computer.

To rule out this possibility, carry out following and afterwards I will give you a script to run which will show me the results.

HOW TO USE MICROSOFT'S OFFLINE MALWARE REMOVER
Windows Defender Offline
· performs an offline scan of an infected PC to remove viruses, rootkits and other advanced malware.
· is a free standalone, bootable malware and virus remover from Microsoft.

Download Windows Defender Offline (about 785 kB)
You will have the choice of downloading the 32bit version (x86) or the 64 bit version (x64).
The link will help you determine whether you are running a 32 bit version or 64 bit version of Windows

NOTE!! You can download and prepare a 32 bit version using a 64 bit version of Windows
NOTE!! You can download and prepare a 64 bit version using a 32bit version of Windows.

You run the 32 bit version on a 32 bit version of Windows.
You run the 64 bit version on a 64 bit version of Windows.

The 32 bit download file name is: mssstool32.exe
The 64 bit download file name is: mssstool64.exe

For the curious, this program was originally name Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper.

INSTALLATION:
· Requires an Internet Connection.
· Insert 512 mB or larger USB stick into a usb port.
· Run the downloaded program--mssstool64.exe or mssstool32.exe
· NEXT button
· Choose the option On a USB flash drive that is not password protected
· NEXT button
· NEXT button
.
The install program will:
· format the usb stick using the NTFS format.
· download less than 230 mB.
· name the USB stick WDO_Media32 or WDO_Media64
· use less than 300 mB.

How to UPDATE the Windows Defender Offline USB stick:
· reinsert the usb stick
· run the installation program, mssstool64.exe or mssstool32.exe, again.
· the update will download less than 65 mB.

Since the malware database is sometimes updated several times in a day, always update before running.

PERFORM AN OFFLINE SCAN
Bootup your computer from the USB stick
Windows Defender Offline will automatically perform a quick scan.
After the quick scan finishes, Choose Full Scan
Select all of your drives

The initial, full scan can easily take several hours, but
Remember, your computer is being very thoroughly checked for all types of malware.

edwar,
If they wiped his disk clean, then, yes, he will need to reinstall some products.

First and foremost, we must establish that the system is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, malware free.

I disagree you should install all of the software listed on the Support Downloads webpage for your model. This defeats the benefits of a Clean Reinstall. Instead study what is available and try that which seems to be missing.

First look in Device Manager to see if a driver is missing or in error. This should be installed first, from optional Windows Updates (do all Important and Optional updates) then from the Downloads page.

If you want to tell us your exact model we can help you find it. Packard Bell is not good about loading software onto their website but it can normally be tracked down. Worst case scenario is you might need to run Factory Recovery from its partition, disks you made or order.

Or you can start over and get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

And what would it hurt to make sure all the makers system software is installed?

Clearly some features of the OPs notebook are not functioning, that is more then likely because the system software/drivers are not installed.

Our focus here is Win7 running in it's native instantaneous state. The OEM's tend to think their hardware is the focus to be propped up with useless duplicate utilities that can throttle Win7. So between the crapware they install to get commissions, to these utilities that 90% are not needed, it's a never-ending battle to set Win7 free to run best.

This can be partly achieved simply by runnning a Clean Boot so that the 20-40 programs an OEM will have starting with windows are turned off at startup. This and a few other steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware
will almost suffice to set Win7 free to run in it's native state.

But nothing compares to a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is actually better than getting a new computer when you consider how hobbled they are by the bloatware.

This doesn't mean that there aren't some features - mostly in Samsung and Sony - that require reinstall of a driver package or full software to have function correctly, just as a touchpad might not tap-to-click or scroll correctly without it's software running at startup.

There was a time when I would 100% agree Greg, but:
My personal recent experience involving a recent model Toshiba has indicated that the advice doesn't always work.

On this laptop, I've had some interesting learning experiences.

Win 7 drivers have not kept up with modern hardware and MS doesn't offer the modern drivers from their site. Some of the "utilities" and "applications" from the vendor are simply a necessity for the system to function correctly.

I tried without all of the "bloatware" and also without any Toshiba drivers. Failed miserably. With some of their drivers, then the system became "usable", but not full functional.

I had to install some of the utilities and applications to get full functionality.

I am 100% certain the computer is malware free, as that was one of the main purposes to send it for repair. How can I tell if a driver is missing? I'd really not like to go through the factory settings, as I have had troubles in the past with many things and I'm a little afraid of tampering with all that now. My model is tx86 and the problems are that the glowpad isn't working, and when i'm typing it takes me off of it sometimes, and there may be a few other things I've forgotten. The main thing is the typing as this is an annoyance.

I asked you to look in Device manager to see if any Devices need a driver. What did you find?

Have you been to the Packard Bell Support Downloads webpage for your exact model? Did you find newer drivers or additional software for the features that are problematic? I see a Touchpad and Sound driver that may be customized, and a Launch Manager application which may cover the lighting issue. http://il.packardbell.com/pb/en/IL/content/download
