This is a new one for me. I downloaded a zip file that I need to rollback a media player to it original firmware. I know how to do it using a usb drive. The problem is that the .bin file I need access to, when it is extracted from the zip file is a media file (VLC). On its properties page it is listed as:VLC media file (.bin) (.bin) and I need it to be a regular .bin file. Thanks

Don't concern yourself with what the properties page says. That information is from the extension (.bin) that VLC has set an associations to. It is only based upon the extension of the file, nothing more.

Yes, it does matter, and here is a fix

Yes, yes, I know this is an old thread. I'm here because I had this problem. So: old thread, current problem.

This problem has been going on for years, and it is still going on. VLC hijacks your computer. And the VLC bin files won't work. So you can't, for example, update your camera firmware.

Here is a solution that works for Win7
SOLUTION:
Default File Type Associations - Restore
