This is on a levovo g570 that's about one or two months old.
White text in lower left corner, many many notifications of failed processes, log-ins to websites are not saved between sessions, the taskbar is now flat white and no longer transparent.

You have file corruption problems.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Copy the CBS.log file created to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

You have a large number of problems, at least as far as your SFC report is concerned.....
Running an CheckSUR may help to get rid of at least some of them....

Please run the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Method 2)

then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your public SkyDrive so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.
The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and will exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.

Did you not take note of where you saved the file? -
Try looking in the My Documents\Downloads folder - that's the default location for all downloads.
If it's not there, start the download again and make a note of the location it's saved to (you can then cancel the new download without saving it)

If on the other hand you mean that you ran the downloaded file, the CheckSUR.log file is at
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

That looks as if it should be easy enough to fix :) - what effect it'll have is another matter, as it's not the latest version!

You may want to print these intructions out!

I've attached a zipfile - wcpr.zip to this reponse
Save it to your desktop, and right-click on the saved file - select Extract All and save it to C:\

Close all windows down, and reboot to the Repair Enironment - to do this, as your machine restarts, tap the F8 key repeatedly, and you should get the Advanced boot options menu up, At the top of the list of options should be 'Repair your Computer' - take that option.

Once you've logged in open the option for a Command Prompt.
at the prompt type DIR C:\wcpr - if it finds the files, then great, if, not then try DIR D:\wcpr (and so on until you find it).
Now use the following command

XCOPY <drive>:\wcpr <drive>:\Windows\winsxs /S /T

Change the <drive> to the proper drive letter you found above.
Note that you MUST get that command exactly right, or it simply will not work.

Once the command prompt returns, reboot to Windows normally

Now run CheckSUR again - it will tell us whether the problem has been fixed, and whether it's found any new ones as a result.
post the new CheckSUR.log file

I've tried this but could not get it to work. I extracted wcpr correctly, but DIR C:\wcpr will not work in the repair environment. (it does work when I log in regularly) For some odd reason DIR E:\wcpr works, but I don't have an E drive.

That's why I put the instructions the way I did - the Repair environment reads the disk a different way to normal Windows.
Once n teh Repair Environment you need to use the command

XCOPY E:\wcpr E:\Windows\winsxs /S /T

then reboot back to normal Windows

Hmmm - it obviously didn't 'take'!

I think I see what happened, and it's my fault - Sorry!

Please run the following command
Code:
DIR C:\Windows\Winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_678566b7ddea04a5
post the output.

Then boot to teh Repair Environment again and use the following command.

XCOPY E:\wcpr E:\Windows\winsxs /S /Y

That one *should* work (the difference is the 'switch' at the end - I somehow managed to put the wrong one there, which meant that the file wasn't actually copied!)

The boot to normal Windows, and run teh CheckSUR again - with any luck it'll report the fix worked this time!
