Hi all,

I'm getting BSOD errors on my HP Compaq NW9440 laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

This doesn't happen every time I use my laptop, but it happens often enough to be a problem. I don't think anything I'm doing on the laptop seems to trigger the BSOD, it just seems to happen.

I have attached the dump zip files created using the Seven Forums diagnostic tool.

Looking at the logs with BlueScreenView it seems to give several different errors and blames ntoskml.exe & vsdatant.sys most of the time, and once it has blamed nvlddmkm.sys.

I have no idea what is causing this so I'm hoping one some of your nice people could help me out.

Many thanks.

Hi 50 cent, it is due to Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter.
Code:
fffff800`00b9c9b8 fffff880`042a7deeUnable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\bcmwl664.sys, Win32 error 0n2

It is really old, and needs to be updated.
Code:
lmvm bcmwl664
start end module name

Search for updates in Downloads | Broadcom. If not available (may be it is an OEM thing) search for it in HP Compaq's site.

You should opt for a BIOS upgradation, too.
Code:
BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard 68YAF Ver. F.1C, [COLOR=Red]05/03/2008[/COLOR]

Uninstall the following programs.
Code:
Start Menu\Programs\AVG
Use Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept the restart.
Let us know the results.

Many thanks for your reply.
I've implemented the changes you suggested, except the BIOS upgrade.
The HP site only has BIOS upgrades geared towards XP and VISTA whereas I'm running Win7 so I'm not sure which ones to install.

I have my laptop running to check if any BSODs occur. I'll let you know if any more happen.

Thanks again.

If doing the other things makes it free form crashes, you may decide to not update the BIOS right now.

So, let us know the situation.
