Laptop stays at Black screen for 10+ mins after logging in

I have Windows 7 on my laptop and after I start it up and enter my password to login to windows I have to wait another 10-15 minutes for my desktop to appear. It's just a black screen, but the kicker is that I can move my mouse and see it on screen. I've never heard of or seen anything like this before.

Anyone know what's causing this or how to fix it?

How old is the laptop? Is it still under warranty? What you are describing sounds like the LCD is going bad.
