So i built a computer back in September and it's been blue screening ever since, I thought nothing of it at first because it happened rarely, but now it's been happening often. It happens mainly when i play apb: reloaded, but it's also happened with other games, just not as much. Usually when it blue screens, its random, it doesn't happen when the game gets laggy, it just happens. If someone could help that'd be awesome.

(I think I'm posting this right, not sure though, it's my first time)

In such a situation, I would suggest you to uninstall Norton and all Symentec products using Norton Removal tool. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download and install those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Update your display driver to the latest.

First you update your display driver.
http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/1810-latest-amd-catalyst-video-driver-windows-7-a.html

Then perform a disc check.

  1. Update your SSD's Firmware (skip it, if it is not a SSD)
  2. Reseat the sata and power.
  3. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
  4. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Scan the system for possible virus infection.

Let us know.

Alright, it might be a bit before I can get around to doing this, I have to see if I can find a blank cd somewhere, I'm pretty sure I have some, just not sure where. And I re-installed my graphics drivers about a week ago, do you think I should still try updating it? And also, is it safe to re-install Norton? Or should I wait until this whole deal gets figured out?

You may give the latest version of norton a go. A couple of days ago, two of their developers claimed it that they removed tho BSOD factor in the latest version. I am not sure as I dont use it personally.

Update display driver. There should a at least one latest for you, 12.11.

Alright, I'll download them both right now, and if a blue screen comes, which it more than likely will, I'll see if I can find a disk around the house somewhere. It might be a blank audio disk though, which wouldn't work, would it?

So far, it's been running pretty well. It's only crashed once, and that was because I was playing with Skype running. But I've played apb and not bluescreened at all for 4 hours without Skype. In the past it had bluescreened faster when I had it running, so maybe the remaining blue screen problems have to do with it?

Well APB bluescreened without Skype, so I don't think that is the problem. But Minecraft crashed the other night while running Skype, so it's not limited to apb. I think this might be a RAM issue actually. Seeing how it crashes more often with Skype open. I tried running apb with one stick of RAM (4gb) and it couldn't handle it, it ran normally but it froze up after a little bit because the RAM usage was to high. I would test it with just the other stick to see how that ran in comparison, but it's stuck under the after market cpu fan, and I'd have to take apart pretty much the entire computer to get it out seeing how it's a mini-pc. Does this information change anything?

Some inputs from koolkat77 :
Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.

The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.
Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.
If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.
If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all the other motherboard slots.

If Part 2 testing shows errors, and all tests in Part 3 show errors, you will need to test the RAM sticks in another computer and/or test other RAM in your computer to identify the problem.

In this way, you can identify whether it is a bad stick of RAM, a bad motherboard, or incompatibility between the sticks.

possible discovery?

alright so I had ran the memtest with both sticks of ram and it came up clean. I was going to run it on both sticks individually the next two days. But tonight while I was playing APB, the game froze, and so I ctrl + alt + deleted and when it went to the desktop there was a little pop-up that said the graphics drivers had stopped responding, and when I opened up apb again, it bluescreened. I think it might be the graphics drivers, but I've reinstalled them and updated them several times.

Graphics driver has stopped responding and successfully recovered .... this pop-up in system trey is somehow common. Id updating driver cannot get rid of it, it most probably a card that is failing at random, and such a failure is too randon to be detected by furmark. If it continue, the best is to RMA the card.

I've reinstalled and updated and all that stuff, blue screens are still coming. I also got a blue screen while watching a youtube video the other day. There's not by chance another way around getting a new video card is there?
