Hi Welcome to Seven Forums.
To help us help you would you please add your systems specs? Here's how: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html#post1530002
Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built.

Log in to Seven Forums and you will be able to transfer the info directly to the specs page in your profile from within the System Info app.
After doing this your specs will be available in each of your posts. Click on My system Specs in the lower left of this post to see how it should look.:)
Full instructions are in the tutorial.

Please do the step 7 of the tutorial linked to upload your full specs automatically. You are too clueless about computers to provide decent info for us to answer your question.

Anyway, if "hp media center pc m7067c" is really the PC you have, then this is its page in Hp site. Navigating from that we reach the motherboard specifications, where we can read

Socket: LGA775
Supports processor up to 3.4 GHz
Supports Intel Pentium 4 HT processors
800 MHz front-side bus

This page from intel's site (processor manufacturer) lists the processors that fit.

They are all single-core processors. They have Hyperthreading so they appear as dual cores to the programs, and perform marginally better than single-cores without hyperthreading.

They all suck and being so old they are even hard to find. I advise to buy a new PC.

Althugh if you just use it as media center PC (as it was intended to be used) it isn't so bad.

According to what i know i have a socket cpu and my current cpu is intel pentuim 4 :P the oldies.
So i can get a intel core 3 and have no problems ?
As processors become more powerful, sockets get bigger. Also, the motherboard's chipset must recognize the CPU for it to work properly. See above for what you can install.

There are different kinds of sockets (here a list of the various kinds). More powerful processors need bigger sockets. Your socket is too small for even an i3, go figure a i7.

And even if the socket did fit, the motherboard would have to state to be compatible with that particular processor, as the chips on the board must be designed to talk with that processor.

Forget an upgrade. The way you imagine you would need a new mobo, new CPU, new PSU new Dimms and the while 9 yards. It is cheaper to buy a new PC.

All processors fit into a "socket". There are different sockets, such as Socket 775, Socket 1155, Socket 1156, Socket 1366, Socket 2011 and so on and so forth. If you have a Socket 775 motherboard, you will have to find a CPU that is socket 775. You can't put a Socket 1155 CPU in a Socket 775 motherboard........it just don't work like that. I would either live with what you have, or save up and buy an entirely new system. Just as whs said in the post above, by the time you upgrade that system, you've spent as much as a brand new system and don't have the performance to show for it.

If you would like ideas and recommendations for a replacement system, we would be happy to help you out there.

I read the list and my cpu socket is LGA 775,

so does that mean my computer is compatible with intel xeon?

(im not giving up yet. IM gonna find a cheap intel proccesor. I dont feel like buying a new computer although you guys tell me to :P)

As I told you, the motherboard has a socket AND a list of processors it can accept.

The socket is the first limit to what you can install (as you cannot fit a square in a circle duh!), then there is your motherboard's list of accepted CPUs.

The list of CPUs that the board accepts is the one I linked above, the data was taken from HP's site, I didn't made it up.
If you buy and install a CPU not in that list, it's not going to work, period.

If you bought the components and assembled the PC on your own instead of buying already-assembled PCs from HP, Lenovo, whatever, the board would accept nearly all CPUs that fit in the socket.

Your list sucks, there are very respectable CPUs with socket 775 (screw Xeons, they are for servers), but the board will be able to use only the CPU currently installed and a few more of the same family. Why? because they don't want you to be able to really upgrade your PC, they want you to buy a new one (possibly from them) if you want more.

If you buy components alone, you can upgrade. If you do, you have already a case and a (crappy) PSU, plus probably some kind of crappy graphic card.

Tell us the budget and we can give some ideas on what you can get for that.

hello? the board does not support it. It's not a normal board, its supported CPU list is pretty damn narrow compared to normal boards.

Also, 500$ for that!!!! It's a TRAP!
its-a-trap-83689.jpg

With that money I can get a SLI/Crossfire-capable Z77 motheboard with a I7 3770k plus 16 GB (good brand) ram, or a Z77 board with a i5 3570k plus 16 GB (good brand) ram and a half-decent gaming graphic card (or remove the card and place a good PSU). Either processors can beat it on anything by a large margin even if undervolted and downclocked.

For socket 775, anything costing more than 80$ is overpriced. That is, above 80$ you're better off buying a mobo with a bigger socket and a more modern processor that fits in it as price difference won't be so huge while performance gain will be very significant.
