PC does not come awake from SLEEP-mode

Hi,
Selecting START - SLEEP works fine, but waking up does not work.
My one month old, brandnew bought pc does not come awake from sleep.
Pc is built around a ASUS motherboard P8Z77-V LE
CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50 GHz
8 Gb DDR3memory
Gigabyte graphics card GV-R577SL-1GD (ATI HD5770)
Operating system Windows 7 SP1
SP/2 Keyboard

All drivers for the hardware and software are up to date.

On the PC housing there is the (soft) ON/OFF button with Power Led.

A lot of e-mails with Support.Asus.com and trying different
settings and other experiments did not lead to a solution.

As written above, the pc can be switched into Sleepmode by
selecting START-SLEEP under Widows or
pressing the ON/OFF switch of the pc (default programmed so).
In both cases the Power Led is flashing now.
The led in the USB Optical Mouse is then switched off.
The Num Lock led on the keyboard stays ON.
As soon I press one of the key's of the PS/2 keyboard to
initialize the pc to awake, the flashing Power Led of the pc is then switched off.
There is still a voltage on the keyboard because the Num Lock led is still on.
The led in the USB Optical Mouse is still off.
The only wayup to now to switch the pc back on is to unplug the pc from the mains, wait till the Num Lock led
is switched off and then plug the mains back.
Then you will get the black Windows screen to start up Windows on the normal way
but the data which was in memory is lost.
I have experimented
- by updating the BIOS,
- by resetting the C_MOS (battery removed, RTC jumper temporarely connected to jumper 2-3, then 2-1.
- giving the DEFAULT setting to the BIOS (F5),
- using the on-board Intel graphics video with updated drivers and
removing the Gigabyte graphics card and drivers,
- doing a fresh clean install of Windows 7 (64) with updates,
- disabling the FireWall and AntiVirus programs,
- experimenting with the command Powercfg followed by several parameters.

No USB devices are connected except the USB mouse.

The Energy-tab of the PS/2 keyboard, found in the Device Manager showed that the PS/2 keyboard is allowed to let the pc come awake.
To check if this works, if I disable that option then when pressing a key on the keyboard nothing happens.
The USB-mouse is also allowed to let the pc come awake, but that has no effect because during the sleepmode of the pc the led in the USB optical mouse is switched off.

Within Windows7 (Energy) it is also possible to program the function of the pc ON/OFF switch. If I program "shut down" the pc with this swicth, it works.
If I program it to SLEEP then when the pc is already in Sleep mode (power led is flashing) and I press this button then the power led was also switched off.
The Esc button on the keyboard behaves as any other key.

In the BIOS I can select that the spacebar of the keyboard can Power on the pc from sleep. As soon as I pressed the space bar the flashing Power led also switched off.

The motherboard supports ACPI 2.0a.

There seems to be no possibility to let the pc coming awake.

The ASUS support management described this issue as follows:
"Sleepmode is a default Windows function. This function therefore should be working on all computers,
so in my case also with my motherboard ASUS P8Z77-V LE.
Problems with SLEEP/AWAKE mode will be mostly caused by Windows itself".
After spending a lot of time to this issue I am very anxious if it is indeed caused by Windows.
And if of course this issue can be solved.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Most sleep problems are Display driver-related.

Run Windows Updates to see if there are Important or Optional Windows Updates to install including drivers, after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3).

If no Display driver deliverred via Updates then update the latest Display driver from the OEM's Support Downloads webpage.

There are other steps here for Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums

Check the logs and other system resources, establish a Clean Boot, test the hardware as given in Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Yes Greg and I found the official Asus site was best for drivers as the Windows auto didn't do a very good job on mine.

The CD that came with the board (P8Z77-V) was also pretty ordinary compared to the on line download.
