Laptop screen goes black when I plug stuff into the USB sockets

OK, this is the most annoying thing i've ever experienced on a laptop/PC. Basically when I plug something into any of the USB's on my laptop my screen will go black, but if I run my finger across the trackpad it will light back up again for a second and then go black again, this continues no matter how many times i run my finger on the trackpad. If I take the USB out it still doesnt fix, it seems the only way to fix it is to unplug the power source.

If anyone can offer any help with this I will love you long time.

Plus some system specs would help too ie CPU laptop model etc - makes life a bit easier

Hiya thanks for the reply, it seems the problem has now disappeared, kinda weird but i'll post my PC specs and what not in case it happens again.

The specs, exactly as I read them:
Acer Aspire 5750
CPU: Intel Core i5-2430M @ 2.40GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.0GHz
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000, up to 1760 MB Dynamic Video Memory
Screen: 15.6" HD LED LCD
RAM: 8GB DDR3 Memory
Hardrive: 1000 GB HDD

Ok Adam well mate a bit of scratching round came up with a lot refs to something shorting out. Now if it has cleared up thats great but maybe as well to check the driver for graphics and also have a visual inspection of the device connections and the ports just to make sure there are no bent of slightly misshapen contacts.

Best keep note of what you plug into what mate too so that if this happens again it could be the device you are plugging in and in which port as well.
