New GPU and PSU causing CPU Tempreture to skyrocket?

Hi

So Installed a new GPU and a PSU and everything seems to be working fine. However I noticed when idel the CPU tempreture is 50+ and when playing a game it goes up to 90+, I turned it off of course as I do not want to risk blowing the cpu.

Although I am not 100% certain I do believe the tempreture never really reached that high before I put in the new GPU. These tempretures are not safe are they? Will I have to buy a new cooling system for the CPU or are there some tweeks I can try out first.

Thanks

They are high.
I would check to see if the CPU heatsink was dislodged during the install of the power supply.

The heatsink is the fan and the little cage its in above the CPU right? If so im pretty sure it has not moved. It seems to be the the same position as always and does not move an inch.

Can you take some pictures of inside your case and post them? As pbcopter pointed out, the cpu fan may have been bumped. It doesn't take much to knock them loose.

Push down the 4 pins on processor heatsink and see if one of them clicks, perhaps on of them got loose causing temp to rise.

Just tried, it seems to be fitted properly. Still having the same problem with the tempreture. Any other ideas?

I took the graphics card out, temp stays the same. According to ''GPU Temp'' my GPU was running at 40 degrees

So does this mean there is a problem with my CPU cooling?

I agree with everyone else.
Chances are great one of the pins pulled loose a bit on the CPU heatsink.

By putting in a new PSU and GPU, essentially rewiring everything, makes it quite likely you've pulled one or more of those pins loose a bit releasing the pressure on the CPU. An very easy mistake to make and overlook in such a situation.
Keep in mind, a pin may feel snug to the touch, yet not be seated fully causing temprature problems.

Double check those fins are fully seated AND, the fan is working properly. Also, if you have some compressed air, blow out the heatsink fins and make sure its good and clean.

--EDIT-- Should TJMax be around 105 for that CPU? That will throw temps off.
Im not certain, so do not take for fact. Someone familair with this CPU confirm please?

I would suggest cleaning the fan fins of the heatsink stock intel coolers aren't the greatest

also I would go as far to re apply paste ,Im thinking your heatsink might be clogged up by dust intels stock coolers are famous for that

I just took my cpu cooler out and placed it back again, I am certain the pins are properly placed in and cannot be pushed in any further. I almost feels like if I put any more pressure onto the pins the mobo will crack, which I certainly want to avoid.

I took a picture of the existing paste that was on the cpu, sorry for the bad quality.

image ru

The CPU cooler's paste looks pretty much the same as of the CPU as well.

I have not tried cleaning it with compressed air yet as I do not have any, will need to buy it, as for the paste does it look good enough or will I have to reapply it?

I actually got a message appearing today that the CPU has hit a critical tempreture and the computer will shut down in 30 seconds.

You must clean off the old paste from both the CPU and heat sink and apply new, following the instructions from the paste manufacturer (too much is as bad as too little).

I like Arctic Silver 5
Arctic Silver Incorporated - Céramique 2

Use alcohol and a coffee filter to clean the old paste off.

just a thought but is the fan actually plugged in?

can you check to make sure the fan is spinning during use...leave the side off and look.

Yep, it is spinning. So I guess the only thing left to try is the paste, right?

While you are at it,do you mind giving that cooler a real good look?Do all four corners have both their pins? Its them white "spear" like plastics that get divided by the black one when "locking",maybe one of them is folded and doesnt get through the MB hole Had a similar problem and only by close looking, found that one corner did miss one of the two fastening pins and so did not attach firmly.Got another one that was laying there and replaced it,in combination with fresh applied paste, got it fixed...

Hmm just had a look, all the pins look perfectly fine. So i guess the next step is to apply new paste. Can the thermal paste have that much affect on the tempreture? Strange as I only noticed the problem when I installed the new GPU and PSU, it cant be a coincidence can it?

Thermal paste will benefit your temps by 10 degrees,as far as as if its a coincidence or not,we assured(?) that your GPU is working fine. How your new PSU performs,is another issue, voltages, amperage,by the way what kind is it,well known brand,no name? Can you re-plug your old one?
