I recently got a new 120gb SSD to replace my HDD. I have an i7 Lenovo y570, 8gb ram, with switchable graphics using a Nvidia GeForce 555m. Before upgrading, while playing Guild Wars 2 my performance was flawless on ultra graphics running at about 80 C and stable 50 FPS. Now I'm experiencing spiking FPS running at about mid 90's C after 5 mins on the lowest graphics settings! I updated all drivers and installed it correctly to the best of my knowledge.

Would greatly appreciate some help, ready to game!

Mike

Was the video card driver one of those that you updated? If so, try uninstalling that driver and reinstalling the driver you did have on it. Sometimes driver updates break stuff.

I'm reinstalling them at the moment. I uninstalled the Nvidia card and as soon as it finished uninstalling it reinstalled it and said to restart my computer as it had successfully been installed. Doesn't seem I have much of a choice to reinstall the driver from the lenovo website instead.

I reinstalled windows 7, updated all drivers with no error this time. Still running at about 90 C while gaming. Not sure what is causing this. Was not running like this before I installed the SSD

To be very frank ... running your laptop at 80 deg C even before SSD upgrade is a not a good sign either... I would would suggest you clean the airvent's on the left side of the laptop of dust ( or if your can comfortable in dismantling the laptop ... then that way ) by using a vaccum to suck it out..

I did clean some dust out when I installed the SSD. I would hope there's not enough left in there to cause that 15 C difference haha. I'll try cleaning it out again and get back to you.

Well you will be surprised... i have just recently dismantled a laptop.. in the purpose of cleaning the CPU fans... Guess what !!... there was a BEE !! a small one... along with the dust collected blocking the air vent from the inside.... Thinking of How it got there through the small clearance of the fins... still make my head ache !! :banghead:

Ok, I have a very strange update. I decided to record the fps spike I was receiving while playing guild wars 2 so I could show someone. I'm using FRAPS to record. As soon as I press record and begin playing, the FPS spike immediately stops and my core temps seem to lower about 15 degrees! What in the world is going on. I obviously cant just record constantly to keep this great performance due to computer space but this is definitely not something I can pass up! Does anyone have an explanation?
