Hello,

I have been seeing BSODs randomly ever since I got this laptop. Usually, it is seen after the laptop resumes from sleep i.e it has been put to sleep and I power it back on. I have attached the zip file that has multiple crashes - hope someone on this forum will be able to help me decode them, and hope there is a common reason for the crashes. Please help on this.

Some more details:
Laptop make: lenovo ideapad
processor : i7 2.2 Ghz
graphics card : nvidia geforce
memory : 8gb.

Please let me know if any more info. is needed from me.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Prashanth.

McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD-s, consider uninstalling it with the McAfee Removal Tool and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials (To test)
Microsoft Security Essentials.
Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other antiviruses/internet security software. It is free and lightweight:-
:ar: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Perform a System File Check:
  • Click on the start :orb:
  • Type CMD on Search
  • Left click and Run as Administrator
  • Type SFC /scannow
Full tutorial here:

Disk Check on your hard drive for file system errors and bad sectors on it:

Let us know the results & await the .nfo file.

Hi Koolkat77,

Thanks for your reply. PFA the zip file having the .nfo and .txt files you asked for.

I had McAfee AT that I got free with the laptop for ~6 months, after it expired (on Dec 12th) I uninstalled it and installed Kaspersky AT. I have performed a full system scan with this and found no issues.

Also ran sfc/scannow - it said "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations". I am running a disk check now, I am fairly confident there should not be any issues, as this is a new laptop.

I ran the uninstall tool now. It is done.
Were the msinfo files and the dmp files of any use to indicate the cause of the crashes?

Thanks again for helping me out with this !

There was a BSOD again - seen after resuming from sleep. I am uploading the SF diagnostic tool output. The latest .dmp file is the one corresponding to 02-Jan-2013.

The blue screen seen while dumping seemed to indicate a driver problem, though it did not mention which driver / device caused it.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight, per RAM module per slot.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Thanks Arc for your reply.
I turned on driver verifier, and left it on for about 24 hours - no crashes were seen.

I will start the memory diagnostic now, will keep the thread posted. Thanks.

I had left the memtest overnight. it took about 11hrs to go over 7 passes. i have a 8 gb ram.

regarding the temperatures, the temp is around 40 deg under very little load, and it goes upto around 50 deg under 20% load. at a load of 90 to 95%, the temp hovers between 60 - 65 degrees.

I saw 2 more crashes in the last one week, I hadn't turned off usb selective suspend (suggested by arc). I will do that now.. and watch for crashes.
