Hey guys,

Just a bit of info behind this-
Over the course of the past year or so, my computer has had random BSODs. It is fairly new too - got it in December 2010. What is starting to concern me is that I got a BSOD today, but I had got one yesterday as well. I'd really appreciate it if anyone would help me with this as I would really like to possible resolve this issue before it gets worse.

Thanks :) Please find attached my Diagnostics tool results.

Hi,

It looks like you are running a system builder OEM version of Windows 7. Lets start by making sure there aren't any underlying activation issues:

1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. Run the tool, and then click 'Copy' - ignore any errors if they appear

3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the validation tool here in your next reply

That is very old - the latest is V4.2.6
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

I suggest uninstalling the old version......but......before installing the latest version, run your system without VBox to see if it is stable. - that will help determine if it was the cause of the BSOD.

I will give it a shot :)
Another question - I have a Virtual Windows XP setup which I use in VirtualBox occasionally, if I uninstall it will my XP setup be gone as well?
Also, since these BSODs only happen occasionally, if I followed with your steps and marked the issue as solved but it started happening again, should I start a new thread or continue with this one?
One last question - apart from the VirtualBox installation, is there anything else that may be of interest which may trigger these BSODs?

Thank you :D

Hi,

Just leave this thread open - it doesn't matter if its several weeks - then post back when you want. Its not a problem.

I can't see other reasons for a BSOD at the moment, but I have asked some BSOD experts to have a look at this too - they may well see soemthing I have missed, so do visit back here over the course of the next 2 days to read other replies.

As far as the VirtualXP setup, I can't really say as I have no knowledge of that - but I'll ask someone more knowlegable to have a look at this - please look back here for advice before uninstalling older version of VBox.

I would first export the XP virtual machine to an external HD (backup it), uninstall old VirtualBox, install the lates version, copy vm back to it's default location and then create a new virtual machine using existing vhd. If this for some reason does not work, you could always import the backed up virtual machine.

On VirtualBox site they have quite extensive instructions for you on how to export and import virtual machines.

VirtualBox: Importing and exporting virtual machines

It may not be related to BSOD but you don't seem to have SP1 installed. Run Windows updates till you get that.
