How can I change the size of the ridiculously small file requester windows?

There was some app on XP which hacked some system files, but I don't feel
comfortable with some legacy app messing around in the guts of win7.

Win7 has the ability to resize some dialog boxes- look at the bottom right hand corner of the window/box for the tell-tale feature.

Trouble is that the dialog box annoying me can not be grabbed at the
corner.
It might be a Paint Shop Pro 13 bug I don't know:

The file open dialog can be maximized. If it was, then the un-resizable
"Save as" dialog looks like this:

Would you please double check the reults of your last effort?

You still can't see the image?

I see them all right from both my and my mother's PC.

But I can describe for you: the teeny tiny dialog box is "maximized" in a way that the usable area is still the same small size, but its now located in the top left corner of the screen, and the rest of the monitor real estate is covered by "empty window surface".

Anyway, my base problem is probably due to apps using crappy old legacy dialogs, not new shiny win7 ones. I'm just not sure if hacking the old dialogs would screw up stuff in win7.

What program is that? The one providing the whacked dialog box?

Only one other app pops into mind: FilterForge. Interesting that there too the
save dialog has the fixed size. Open file requesters have that resize corner.

Zoltan - you are experiencing a problem with the offending app(s), not Windows 7. In time, the developers may adjust their apps to use the current (or correct) Windows APIs, but in the meantime, I think you have to deal with it.

As a workaround, you could try changing the view. Or opening files through Explorer instead of the app. Hopefully, the offending apps will force the file to open in the already running instance, and not open a new instance.

Good luck.

I hope some adventurous Win7 user tries the hacks which work in
XP and post the results here.

I have the same issue with EVERY program in Win 7 when I use FILE-OPEN with IE 9

Open the dialog box
resize the window
open a file (as in, attach a picture to an email)

open the dialog box to attach another file
the box is small again

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
