Solved NIS Conflicts and a bit of advice needed

I am using Norton Internet security 2013 which all i know is a firewall.

From what i understand its not got it to be a antivirus also, so i went and got MSE.

Randomly as NIS will do its scans it conflicts with MSE and asks me to uninstall it.

I would like to know if this is fine to keep the two together or will it do more harm that good?

Or would there be a better antivirus that plays nice with NIS and is it needed?

I also use spybot S&D occasionally and Malwarebytes too, but i dont think that detect viruses do they?

NIS is an Internet Security "Suite". It has anti-virus, anti-spyware, its own firewall and a lot of other security features. It runs in real time so it is not a good idea to use NIS and MSE or any other antivirus program together with NIS at the same time. It will cause a lot of conflicts and neither program will work correctly.

You can use the free version of Malwarebytes with NIS, use it as an on-demand scanner only, and it will work fine. Same with Spybot. You might be able to run the real-time Pro version of MBAM with NIS, but I do not know how well they might work together. You can set exclusions in MBAM Pro for NIS and see if you can exclude MBAM Pro in NIS, maybe they will work together without conflicts that way. If you decide to only use MSE you can run MBAM Pro without any exclusions, they will both work fine together without any conflicts.

Yes it does have AV. Its a all in one suite.

You can however safely run something like Malwarebytes (free version) as its a on demand scanner. Norton is fine with this. In fact, I would recommend using the free version of MB and scan occasionally.

SpywareBlaster is also fine to use alongsdie Norton, as it only blacklists known bad websites in your browser.


As a general rule, you should on run 1 active scanner at a time.
