It seems I'm running out of disk space in the C: drive. I have a Dell Optiplex 760, Dual-Partitioned tower using Windows 7 Pro OS and 64-bit. Other than removing any unnecessary programs, using CCleaner, SmartDefrag and TFC, is there ANYTHING else I can do to significantly reduce the amount of space in my C: drive? Already, I'm starting to see that the system is slowing down. Are there items in the C: drive, downloaded files, program files, etc. that can be removed to free up some space? (And, if that be the case, is there a simple way to determine whether a file can be removed or whether it can't be without adversely affecting the system?)

Attached are screenshots (2) of both C: and E: drives.

Thank you anyone who can participate with some suggestions.

Thanks So Much

Shawn, thanks so much for this NEAT program. Just ran it and the results are incredible. I've attached three (3) screenshots of the size results from the right column, since I had to "piece" them together.

Hello Larry,

You might see if the tutorial below may be able to help with freeing up some HDD space. Using Option 1 with the free program WinDirStat is a good first start to see exactly what is using the space.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Shawn, from the top of the lists I just sent as attachments, you'll notice that the top items take up the most memory. To your knowledge, is there anything that can be removed?

It's difficult to read what's in the screenshots, but I don't see anything obvious that can be deleted.

You might also go through the other options in the tutorial to see if you may be able to reduce space using them.

I don't know how you organize your media files, but they would be prime candidates to move off the c:\ drive onto the e:\ drive. Third on the list was .avi, a dvd's worth. Other movie formats can join the move. Same thing with picture formats and music formats. (By the by, if you do move data off the c:\ drive, make sure the data is backed up in case the e:\ drive fails.)

I haven't used IrfanView in a long time. Perhaps you find it useful, particularly the 1/2 gig of TrueTypeFonts along with other paraphernalia that came with Irfan. How large is your Fonts folder? The FontCache must be working overtime.
