Best CPU cooler for i5 3570k to overclock with?

Hey guys, so recently I purchased a new processor, i5 3570K, and have been getting great speeds with it, but now I want to OC it. Obviously using the stock CPU fan wouldn't do well with overclocking so I wanted to know what CPU cooler I should get that's liquid cooled. I was leaning more towards Corsair H60 or H80 but they are quite pricey. Also I wanted to ask if Liquid Cooling is the most silent or at least more quieter than regular CPU fans. Budget is about 70 - 85 dollars.

Hello and welcome Ski mate I have the Intel RTS2011LC in my machine and I don't hear it at all mind you I don't OC either but I guess for your budget tis would suit

It will very hard to give suggestion until the specs are filled out completely. We don't even know what computer case, (tower) we are working with.

Take a look at my specs or ICit2lol specs and you will see what I mean.

I'm a fan of Corsair, Thermaltake and the new NZXT series sealed but Swiftech has leaped over them with a single bound. Head educate and have options, for the options reason along and pump capacity and additional rad expansion this is the one to look at if it will fit.

With the OP's budget, we are probably talking about a single 120/140mm Rad unit. I also use the Intel water cooler, and I have my 3570K OC'd to a stable 4.5GHz....doesn't miss a beat. With all of the testing I've seen, the H80 with dual fans is probably the best performing single rad unit. I do prefer the coolers that are manufactured by Asetek though, such as the Intel, SOME Corsair models, the Zalmans, and I think the NZXT units. For comparison, the old style Corsair units with the square shaped pump are made by Cool-IT, if I'm not mistaken.

To the OP: Let us know what kind of case you have and we will have a better idea of what will work for you.

From what I've heard the 140mm or 280mm NZXT Kraken is a real contender as well.

Well in that price range it falls short of the best. So then it comes down to save more or sacrifice:

Well +1 KB as per my post#2 it is quiet and efficient and well even looks nice too

Maybe I misread the OP - but he only mentions liquid cooling for overclocking because he seems to be under the impression you need liquid to oc and do it quietly.

The above mentioned self contained units are nice, but air cooling is also an extremely viable and potentially cheaper option.

Noise wise, it all depends on the fans you use. Liquid can be just as noisy as air due to the rad fans. Conversely air can be made virtually inaudible.

General rule of thumb: stock fans are shit fans. Exceptions being noctua.

I didn't read it that way, but it certainly should be noted that there is more than one way to skin a cat. The Noctua NH-D14 air cooler is about 80 bucks atm on Newegg, and is generally regarded as one of the best CPU air coolers on the block. There are cheaper alternatives though. Just depends on how much overclocking he wants to do.

For air NH-d14 or Thermalright Silver arrow or Phanteks PH-TC14PE are all capable coolers that can get you to pretty high OC with Ivy bridge processors.

Actually I was going with this until I saw the size and decided LC was going to be easier to handle

DEEPCOOL - GAMER STORM - ASSASSIN - Design my main objection was that some reviews commented on it over hanging the RAM sticks in particular. But it was taking an i5 3570K to 4.8GHz in some tests.

Honestly, anything other than Socket 2011 would be fine on a single rad water cooler, or a nice air cooler...unless you are doing really extreme OC'ing. IB puts out some heat, but not as much as people think, and only when you REALLY push it. A single 120/140 rad is more than enough for it, as is the Noctua Air cooler. Of course, it also depends on the CPU you get, as not all 3570K's are made the same.

I got the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus and my Intel Core I5-3570k is running stable at 4.5GHz. Full load max temp is 69-72 Celsius. Idle around 20-25 Celsius.

I`m with John on this too, I really like the design of the shroud around the fan, they just don`t slap a fan on it.

That's the one I have, and I might try out some Air Penetrators in push/pull to see if I can squeeze a little bit more out of it. The Delta fan that it comes with does a good job though.
