Windows 7 shuts down all the time - It makes me crazy!

Hi there,

I have installed Windows 7 Professional 10 days ago and till today it worked perfect. But as of today it´s freaking me out: windows shuts down the system all the time (maybe every 2 minutes) and there seems to be no obvious reason for that. I´m installing programs from time to time, but nothing strange (I would say). I´ve installed some system tools to check the temperatures, but they are all ok (30-40°C / 86 - 104° Fahrenheit)
and there seems to be only one way to interrupt the shutdown process: if I have an unsaved document opened, there appears some kind of "blackscreen" with all running programs and waiting to close the programs wich are prompting for a user input. There I can cancel the shutdown. But this is pretty annoying since some(!) other programs are closed, which do not depend on the users will...

Do you have any idea? I´ve been searching the internet but all I found out was about release candidates shutting down automatically. But my version is from my (german) university and is the final version, no RC not cracked or whatever...100% legal, with antyvirus, no adminuser and so on.

Plese help my out since this is making me crazy!
Paul

Usually sudden shut downs relate to a power supply issue. You didn't list your PSU with running two cards you need a decent one.

I suspect you have auto reboot checked in system control panel. if you re-boot in safe mode and un-check it you can at least find out what is going on

let me know if you need help with this

thanks to both of you for your inofrmation.

i dont think that it is the power, since i have a enermax 625W PSU
and as the system worked fine the last 9 days...

"autoreboot" - where can i find that in the control panel?

thanks again,
paul

With dual cards that is cutting it close, try another PSU and see if it changes anything. Easier said that done I realize but often times process of elimination is the only way to figure out these types of problems. You can also try to remove one of your GPU's and see if the problems persists or not. If the problem goes away than the PSU is the most likely cause.

That's an unwanted but "graceful" shutdown, not a crash. It is more likely to be caused by software than by hardware.

Does this happen to you if you boot to safe mode to test (press F8 at startup)?

Hey Guys, thanks for all your help!

I figured it out: it was my keyboard :o
There are three special buttons in it: "sleep", "wake up"
and "power". The powerbutton was not ok. So Windows
was shutting down correctly all the time ^^ I found it
out because I disconnected and unplugged all the
hardware one by one. Well sh!t happens :D

Thanks again and it´s really nice to see how fast and
constructive you guys work an other people´s problems!

Paul

PS: is there a way to mark this thread as solved or something?
