Solved Idea for a unique kind of logon screen.

Hey everybody,

I have this idea for a login screen, but I think it's a bit more technical than visual.
I think it would be really cool to use the currently used desktop background as login screen.
This way when you lock your computer your desktop icons disappear and the login image/password area appears.

Now that shouldn't be to much of a problem when you use one set desktop image, but here's the tricky part.
I use several desktop backgrounds. I use the slide show function so that my desktop changes every 30 minutes.
So I think it would be cool if it would automatically change login screen along with the currently used background.

I thought maybe a "see-through" image as login screen would fix this, but that wouldn't work.
I tried to use a see-through PNG file as login screen, but it just ended up being completely black and see-though JPG files aren't possible, correct me if I'm wrong there.

So maybe it's possible to use the registry to always use the current background image as login screen, something like that? This is where it goes beyond my knowledge but I feel like it should be programmable or something.

It would be really cool imo :)

Welcome to the forums!

You can use this nifty tool to completely customize your logon screen, but for as far as I know there is no way to apply a slide show effect in the logon screen.

Good luck!

I use a different tool but Nommy is correct you can't have a slide show login. I have My login picture the same as my desktop but it is the only one.

Thanks Nommy for the welcome.

Well it doesn't necessarily need to be a sideshow while the computer is locked though.
As long as it uses the current wallpaper at that time (while locking) for the login screen.
I've only done a little of web programming but to me it feels like it should be possible to let Windows load the current wallpaper as login screen every time you lock the screen.

But that would probably require changing some core Windows 7 settings and I have no idea how that would work. I guess it would need a whole different kind of program specifically for this function, and probably nobody is going to bother with that :P

You could use the Windows Logon Changer tool to change the wallpaper from the logon screen.
But if you want to achieve that manually, you might want to read this tutorial. If you are going to do it manually, I do recommend you to make a system restore point before doing so.

Sorry but I dont need help changing the login screen. I was specificly asking for my idea of a dynamic login screen.
I know how to change my login screen, both manually or with one of the many programs :P but thanks anyway.

Edit: I found that this is possible with a program called Pulse. Look it up if anybody was interested.
It changes your background but also is able to change your login screen to your current wallpaper everytime it changes.

there a few logon screen rotators on the web. most have a gui that allow you to specify images and/or folders.
