D-Link DWL-G510 Rev C (RT61/RT2561) in Win7 x64

Hi,
I have the wireless card stated above, the D-Link DWL-G510 Rev C2 with the, as I've read in multiple threads everywhere, Ralink chip RT61/RT2561.

I use Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.

I've tried with alot of different drivers to get my internet/lan/wi-fi to work,
I've used D-Links X64 Vista drivers from their site: 2.1.2.0. and tried the 2.1.3.0 from Windows Update. The one from D-Link works randomly sometimes but not for long.
2.1.3.0. works fast almost directly but causes the whole computer to freeze almost immediately = reboot..

I've tried Ralink's drivers from their site IS_AP_STA_RT6x_D-1.2.8.0_VA-2.1.6.0_W7-3.0.1.0_RU-3.1.2.0_AU-3.0.3.0_082409_1.5.4.0_Free
aswell as the 2.1.0.0. driver and the ones in the "list" when choosing drivers/cards.

Some worked, for example the Ralink Ralink RT61 Turbo Wireless something, but nor for long, they lose connection and stop working..

Does anyone have any help to offer, I see people with similar problems with similar cards but I find no solution for me..

I have 8gb Ram which some people have stated might be an issue but shouldn't be with all drivers..

Seems that I've tried drivers
2.1.0.0.
2.1.2.0.
2.1.3.0.
(2.1.6.0.) seems to become a W7 driver = 3.0.1.0.
probably more but these are the ones I remember atm.

Well I posted some kind of solution (worked for me) on Hardware Canucks. It seems to me that the DLink drivers are quite finicky. I got my drivers from the DLink UK FTP. They are version 2.1.2.0 I believe.
1. Device manager, click on the interface (driver not installed) update driver and point to the Vista64 drivers. Drivers Install correctly (or so it seems).
BUT if you leave like that, you are bound to have problems. For me downloads were throttled to 1 mbps and from a friend's experience, she was losing connection altogether until she rebooted.
2. Device manager, right-click on the wireless interface (seemingly working correctly) and then UNINSTALL .At the bottom there is a tick box saying something like 'Do you want to remove the driver files from the computer?'. DO NOT TICK THE BOX. Click Apply (or next or whatever).
3. Still in the Device manager: rescan for new hardware. It will see the interface and install the driver, but this time correctly.

I've tried that but my rate still is stuck at 3Mb/s instead of 8Mb/s with laptop. You sure you got 2.1.2 ? Thanks.

I'm sure about the driver.

The problem is, and this is driving me nuts, I can't seem to reproduce the 'successful install', i.e. full transfer speeds and so on. Now, if you are already on 2.1.2, Windows Update will give you 3.0.1 or something (it showed up as an update 2 or 3 days ago), but for me it doesn't change anything in terms of speed.
I thought it had something to do with the card being not seated properly (I had to take it out/ set it back in to access the wires of my graphics card), but last night I installed ubuntu 9.10 and I had transfer rates at least 6 or 7 times higher than on Windows!! And this with default ubuntu drivers!!! What the hell is going on?

I'm going to try again from scratch and see if I can successfully install the drivers again. Will keep you updated. Feel free to tell me if you have discovered something new.

I actually got another card from a friend that also uses the RT61 chip, although not a D-Link, and this one worked like a charm instantly with the latest (3.0.1.0) Ralink drivers. So sadly I can't try anything further atm regarding my D-Link card. Everything around and regarding all of the updates that're so unstable seems so bizarre.. Strange indeed.

I understand, it is very frustrating. Especially when Microsoft says that the D-Link card is officially supported by Windows 7. Now to come back to my ubuntu setup, even there the transfer rates are not stable... So is it a hardware problem?

Dlink seems to have make an update to its installation package for the DWL-G510, I downloaded it and it includes the 3.0.1 driver from ralink and miracle, things are working fine apparently, I got a 10Mb/s test of my connection.
Now I need some time for stability evaluation.

DWL G510 and Win 7 (32)

I have just purchased & installed a G510, based on the promise of Win 7 (32) compatibility. Initially I installed the CD drivers in the box: did not work. I downloaded latest from D-link & installed: did not work. I then found this thread and downloaded the dwl-g510_C2_v5.20s0037_EU_S0038_Win7 package and installed it (using setup). Appeared to install fine, makes no difference to the problem. I deinstalled / reinstalled, then deinstalled, removed the card, reinstalled drivers & card - trying to get a complete clean reinstall. Still same problem.

Win7 diagnostic says "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter".

Driver files are:
rt61.sys - Ralink 3.00.01.0000
vwifibus.sys - MS 6.1.7600.16385
RaCoInst.sys.dll - Ralink 1.0.6.1

I know the G510 card is OK because the machine has WinXP dual boot, installed & worked first time with the original CD drivers.

Without the wireless working it has no net connectivity in Win 7 so I cannot use any auto-updates.

Any advice - please !!!

I have had loads of problems with this card in Vista 64, Win7 32 and Win7 64. But nothing like what you are experiencing. You sure it's Rev C2 you got?

Hi, label (on box) says H/W version is C2, firmware 5.11 - it says C2 on the card as well, though can't see that right now as it is reinstalled and I'm working on it, through XP

Having identified the problem I searched on "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter" & found a Microsoft forum with this problem. I tried these instructions. Still did not work - I thought it might not because of the reference to Vista, and I have a Vista, now Win 7, laptop working fine on the network.

Having spent several hours to no effect I gave up & reinstalled Win 7 with the G510 card already installed. Initial install picked the card up but did not support it. However, I then installed the Dlink Win7 update & all is now working fine.

But, seeing growing numbers reporting this problem on various network adapters, it seems like there may be a Win7 issue here.

I've been having the same problem with this network card. I resorted to reinstalling Windows 7, then installing the Windows 7 drivers. It worked. Many Thanks yorxbrox this issue was driving me nuts! Give it a go people.

I can't find those win7 drivers. Can someone post a link please, i'm really sick with this problem..

While i try to install the driver for win7 64bit version i'm getting this error (check screenshot)

I've tried rebooting and nothing.. i will need to reinstall win7 to make it work?

Try going to Windows update and see if you can find the D-link update for Windows 7.

Unsure if this is still a topic of issue, but I find it safe to say that D-Link seems to have done their homework. Specific W7 drivers (x86 aswell as x64) are now available, at least for Rev. C.
