Hi Guys,

I apologise if I have placed this in the wrong thread.

I've had Windows 7 for three weeks now (as a student, Microsoft gave me access to the MSDN Academic Alliance which had Windows 7 available to download).

So far so good overall, however I was going to install a game but it required me to install DirectX and so I installed it and rebooted and now Windows 7 has reverted back to it's original state, just as if I'd have re-installed Windows 7. All programmes gone.

The weird thing is that I can still see most of the files for my programmes, but all executable files have been deleted and nothing appears in 'All Programs'.

I am running Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit) if this helps.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

David

I've never seen anything like that. Was System Restore somehow invoked?

See "help and support". You may be able to use a later restore point.

Hi Bobkn,

Thanks for your reply!

I'm really not sure, I've tried System Restoring but after 10 minutes, the computer restarts and says that System Restore failed.

After installing DirectX, the computer restarted and turned on normally - no sign of any restoration :S

Thanks for replying

Kind regards,

David
