Win 7 upgrade from Vista home Premium - not?

It said it couldn't upgrade from my Vista Home Premium and had to do a custom install clean on top of Vista. I have not gone any farther than to see the installation finished and I see that it saved my Vista files in Windows.old.

I sure thought Win & would upgrade from Vista. Now I have to reinstall all my apps again. And if I'm going to do that anyway I might just as well install the 64 bit version instead of the 32 bit I installed.

Is this best?

I have MS Office 2007 as well to reinstall. Does it work under 64 bit Win 7?

Is this what others have seen?

I cleaned installed, yesterday. I have Office 2007 and it works fine with 64 bit. Be aware, however you must give your license number, and if you have the original DVD to install from, you will be bombarded with updates over the next 24 hours. But, bottom line it does work without a problem

I just had another thought. I bought my computer from Dell with Office installed. I used their reinstall disc to reinstall Office. I do not think that there is an Office for 64 and another for 32 bit, But, I just wanted to bring this to your attention.

Just had another thought, if the windows upgrade advisor indicates that there are no conflicts you should be ok.

I will check on my printer (HP 7310 xi) for a driver under Win 7. OK checked, they have a 32 bit and 64 bit driver for my printer.

Now, for all the games I have loaded (that I don't play). A few I do I will check on in another forum.

I think I'll go with 64 bit and get the extra 512 gig of ram to work (512 gig video card).

Thanks for your input guys/gals.

:roflmao:

Win 7 installed clean with 64 bit. It went out and found drivers for my printer and video card without any interaction needed from me!

I then clicked an executable for a flight sim I play once in a blue moon and it started right up without the need for a reinstall. The sim was on a different logical drive.

64 bit Win 7 reformatted and installed itself in less than 30 minutes . . . while I slept in my chair ;)

Quick note, Office 2007 is 32bit but works perfectly on 64bit.

Yep, I installed that too and it all works now with no errors that I was seeing under Vista.

Glad you got it working.

64 bit is the way to go, you'll like it.

Win office will work with no problem. It will go in your Program files (x86) folder.
