nVidia drivers issues

I wonder if I'm alone here but I am having a lot of problems with 19x.xx series of nVidia drivers.

Had strange problems with some games on those, with few completely unplayable (CoD4 crashing on start, L4D crashing on start or hanging after loading the level, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 having major graphical artifacts or hanging)

Going back to 185.85 and recently to 185.81 solved those problems.

I heard that GeForce 8 and 9 series are affected - anyone had similar experience?

i was having similar probs with L4D with my quad core....i turned off the multiple core setting in advanced video settings of L4D and it helped out alot. also turn off AA and use trilinear....you will find all these in the advanced video settings of game. hope that helps.

First time I ran into problems with L4D I tried pretty much everything, down to registry tweaks and nothing helped - only reverting to older drivers. From what I understand there were some architectural changes in 19x.xx drivers series and my experience so far seems to confirm it. No problems with 185.85 or 185.81 so far.

I've had issues using any of the 190 series drivers. From lack of temp monitoring to graphics wonkyness to poor performance.

Right now I'm sticking with the 185 series. They work great with W7 for me.

How to maybe fix your issue

Ok i figured out why and how it messes up my comp. Every so often Windows does some system updates, and after you install them, seems easy enough. The catch is that them new updates for some god forsaken reason mess up your current drivers for you video card. So to fix it you have to delete the old driver (which is actually the good one) and download the same one. After that is done I install the same driver ( and i have to disable the 2x gpu my card has that option) and after that im good to go like right now 20 mins ago i did this exact process. Now to prevent this from hapenning every week I simply disabled the windows updating thing and from now on i will install the updates when i want to ha!!!. Hope this helps

Real strange because when i was running my 8800GTS i swore by the 197.45 driver's. COD4, L4D 1 & 2 and everything else all run great without problems.

Actually i'm still running the 197.45's on my GTX260 and seem to get the least bugs with these than i do with the later (Kind of fail) driver's from Nvidia.

I'm not running any of those games listed above but on the games I run I"ve had no issues at all.
Used the 197 through the current drivers listed below in sig. (I've yet to bother with the new 2**. series as I see no benefit for those yet.

Typical games are Fallout 3, LOTRO, City of Heroes, Oblivion, Age of Conan, Dirt 3, Torchlight, Sacred 2,
and on and on.
Work fine here.
