Arabic Typing.. but no numbers/non-office

Hey there, I was hoping you guys could help me out real quick. I just installed Windows 7 Professional yesterday and after enabling Arabic as a second language it only lets me type the characters "عربية" and not the letters "1234" I got it setup so it does allow typing of the numbers in Arabic in office as well, but if i copy it into another program such as firefox or IE, they turn back into English numbers.

Please help.

surely someone can shed some light on this subject.. im sure this applies to all typing with difference languages

repost because I just heard back from microsoft and they didnt answer me and just redirected me to their forums -_-

How did you get that much?

Can you tell me how you at least got the ability to type Arabic/Hindi digits into Word using your keyboard? I have the Arabic pack & keyboard in place and can type Arabic letters but no Arabic/Hindi numbers. I have tried all the native digit substitution modes ("context," "never," "national") but they seem to only effect the system displays.
I'm using Vista but hopefully your reply would still help me.

I'm not sure but for some non European Languages where the number of characters exceeds the standard ASCII (or EBCDIC ~ IBM) codes I think you need to set the right "Code pages". This has something to do with Unicode etc.

This is a bit outside my area but you could try experimenting with Code pages.

There's some relationship between "Code Pages" and Keyboard mappings.

I leave this stuff to the really Serious "Geeks".

Sorry for the dead post resurrection, but I have realized this has become the #1 search result for people trying to find how to type Arabic Digits (Hindi Digits) in Windows 7. After looking into it for a few months, the problem stems from Microsoft's Arabic package not including the characters. So after a few hours the other day, I have created my own KLC that includes all of the Hindi Digits with the arabic characters in the letter area. It can be found on my website here: RyanGlynn.com » Arabic Keyboard Layout Finished Programming! -- The zip file contains a microsoft self installer so just run it and Arabic 103 will be created in your languages for keyboards.

Hopefully people with the same need as me will have their issue solved through my KLC.

In Windows 7, even in XP, there's an easy way to key Arabic (Hindi) characters. In Word you can simply going to File - Options - Advance and scroll down to Numerals where you have 4 options: System, Arabic, Hindi, Context. This will change the numerals in the selected option.

However Excel does not have that option. I need to find out how to change numerals the way done in Word.

Any hint would be appreciated.

and install the KLC. Enable Arabic 103 instead and it'll work on all applications.

To get arabic numerals (Hindi by microsoft terminology), open Control Panel - Region and Language, in Formats tab change the format from English (United States) to for ex. Arabic (Saudi Arabia).

Go to Keyboards and Languages - Change keyboards. Add a suitable Arabic keyboard. If you want the Arabic keyboard to be the default keyboard, move the keyboard above English keyboard.

Go to Administrative tab and experiment till you get satisfactory results.

This is one method to enable you to enter Arabic numerals in all windows programs including notepad and Microsoft Excel.

Only Microsoft Word has a different setting in its option to display Arabic numerals which was explained above by SKHAMOU
