Hi peeps im going to be updating my trustee but ageing amd64 3000+ system soon, and just wanted some advice on my potential rig.
I will list components below

Gigabyte ga-ma790fxt ud5p or Asus M4A79T deluxe

AMD Phenom ii 955 quad core 3.2Ghz

4GB Corsair xms 1600mhz DDR3 DHX

Powercolor HD ATi 4770 HDMI DVI

640GB Sata Westen digital black 7200rpm 32mb cache

Antec 300 case black

Corsair vx550 PSU

As listed Im practically upgrading my tower case to a brand new one. My main uses for the pc will be office work with occasional gaming, and maybe video editing sometimes.

I may overclock the system at some point but not by huge margins, as I am happy with the AMD 955 as it is.

My stumbling block the motherboards I am torn between the 2 I really am not sure which one to get, I have read reviews and tried to differentiate between the two, but I cant decide, I dont consider myself as a hardcore gamer or a big video enthusiast. But I am wanting a high end quality system that will last a good 3-4 years as you can tell from my last one I dont upgrade often.

So please guys feel free to comment and or adjustments to the list my budgets around £550.

Depending on your memory, ddr-2 or ddr-3 will dictate your mobo selection.
I use ddr-3 so the assus M4A78-TE was my selection for heavy video projects.

Adrian

Recomended Build: Under 1000$

AMD Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.4ghz
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
G-Skill 1333mhz PC-10666 DDR3 Ram (4 x 2gb)
Sapphire ATI Radeon 5770 GDDR5 1gb
Antec 300
Corsair PSU 750w
WD Caviar Black 640gb 7200rpm

PD: I would NOT recommend the ASUS M4A79T Deluxe if you don't have 2 video cards in Crossfire, it's the same chipset as the ASUS M4A79XTD EVO... the only difference is that the chipset on the XTD EVO is a 790X, and the Deluxe is a 790FX (They even have the same South Bridge; AMD SB750)

The M4A79XTD EVO supports 2 PCI Express 2.0 (Single @ 16x, Dual @ 8x) 790X Chipset limitation

The M4A79T Deluxe supports 4 PCI Express 2.0 (Single @ 16x, Dual @ 16x, Triple @ 16x, 16x, 8x and Quad @ 8x all cards)

It's the only limitation; BUT if you're thinking of Single Card configuration, then you are just wasting money on the M4A79T Deluxe, you can save up to 75$

Another thing, don't use 1600mhz DDR3 Ram with AMD AM3 Processor, use 1333mhz, it's way more stable.

ATI Radeon 5xxx series are a GOOD recommendation cause of the full dx11 support, and the 5770 (the cheapest one) is about 150$ which you can buy with the 75$ savings from the MOBO and the price of the 4770 you were planning to buy

Overall this would be a really good gaming build, in fact that's my next build, even though im not a hardcore gamer.... im just waiting to sell my current PC to complete the money for the new one..

Hope my info helps!
