Hello All

I upgraded from Vista Ultimate 32 to 7 Ultimate 32.

The only quirk I cannot solve is that I see no apps on my task bar. ANd when I minimize a window it does not go to the task bar as it should. It look like a small minimized window. See attached snip.

Any ideas?

Hi! Welcome to SevenForums!

Have you tried locking the taskbar? Try it.

If that doesn't work, right click the taskbar and click properties. [See Screenshot Called Properties]

Then under Notification Area click Customize. [See Screenshot called Customize]

Then tick the box at the bottom and click apply. [See Screenshot called Notification Area.]

Try that and report back!

Done as asked and no change (other than all icons in notification area). As you can see I have a few Firefox windows, Quickbooks and Dreamweaver. DW is the only one that is acting correctly.

Thanks for the upload tip. I went to "Manage Attachments" below and the window would not open.

Hi! Could you show me a snapshot of the Window you get when you click Customize??

Nope. IE, Quickbooks, Yahoo, iTunes etc.

I have been thru every setting that I can find and I am thinking it is a Bug

Ok, I scoured around the web and most people with this problem seem to fix it by right-clicking on the icon for Firefox or whatever program and then going to properties, then to the Compatibility Tab and under Privilege Level ticking Run As Administrator.

Try this and report back!

Yes I did.

But get this (it is typical MS). For grins I ran Windows update. It had ONE security update for IE8. Installed and restarted. Amazing..........things work now.

I have been in IT for years and there are things that happen that make you go HUMMMM. This is one :)

Thanks for the suggestions! Have a good weekend!

I had this exact same problem. I scoured the web for a while and found nothing useful, including this thread. What finally worked was this: I opened the task manager, went to processes, and ended the explorer.exe process. I then re-started explorer manually by going to File -> New Process -> type "explorer" (without quotes) in the field -> hit Ok. After this everything worked normally.

It's an explorer.exe problem

Just start the Task Manager (Cntr/Alt/Del) and end "explorer.exe" from the processes. Then go back to applications, click on New Task, and type in "explorer.exe"
