How to restore Outlook.pst files in Windows 7

I have just installed Windows 7 and am having trouble working around in Windows Explorer. I have 3 .pst files used in Microsoft Outlook from my XP computer that I want to install on the new Windows 7 computer to use in Microsoft Outlook.
Files are:
Archive.pst 265 kb
Outlook Backup.pst 3,977,937 kb
Outlook.pst 3,977,937 kb
Can someone proved detailed instructions on how to install these files on the windows 7 computer. I have Office 2003 on both computers.
Windows Explorer in Windows 7 is really a challenge, I guess I need to find a book to study. Any suggestions?

Hi easiest way is to install this little utulity from microsoft called pfbackup (personal folders backup) after installing it open outlook and click on file, in the menu you will see "backup" listed, click on it and this will bring up the utility. Click on open backup and browse to one of the .pst files that you are trying to restore from, choose one click open and you will see a new set of folders created called personal folders in the folder tree on you left, this is your .pst files. Now you can click on the files you need and copy and paste them into your windows 7 outlook inbox folder or any other folder you like or just drag and drop them. when you are finished right click on the personal folders from the bakup and choose "close personal folders". I can't remember if office 2003 is different but in my outlook 2007 I goto data file management and add the files from there , then set them as default to replace the ones outlook make :geek:

outlook should behave pretty much the same as it would in vista or XP so I'm not sure why yu feel this is a windows 7 problem ? , or is it the folder hierarchy or navigation ?

Thank you so much mrsdoyle. Your solution works beautifully. I wasted many hours trying to recover calendar data from XP to Windows 7. In addition, I needed to copy the following files:
wab32.dll
wab32res.dll
From:
\Program Files\Common Files\System
To:
\Windows\System32
Now Microsoft Outlook is fully functional.

Don't forget to copy your .nk2 file across so you don't lose the suggestion list when typing out your recipients in a new message.
You can find it in: C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\*.nk2

If it's not named Outlook.nk2 in the original location, odds are you will have to rename it to Outlook.nk2 for it to work correctly in your new Outlook profile.

Hi, I need some hekp, before I had Windows XP, and I was able to see the backup option under file in outlook 2007. Now I have switched to Windows 7, and installed the same outlook tool for 2007 in windows 7 64bit, I can't see the backup option under File.

Can you tell us what backup option under file you're talking about. I have Outlook 2007 and see no such option.

Under File--->Import/Export, print etc (top right corner in the outlook program). I in the windows XP, I had a option under File, below import/export, Backup... I used the same download tool from microsoft office into my windows 7, and I don't see that option. The reason I liked that feature, I can set a date for auto outlook backup. Try download the microsoft personal foler backup and see if it works on your computer (If you have time). When I installed it in my windows xp, it should up when I open outlook next time, no need to restart.

Solved, see below

In Outlook 2007, choose Tools | Trust Center and choose Add-ins from the
navigation list on the left.
At the bottom of the Add-ins screen, under Manage, select COM Add-ins and
click Go.
On the COM Add-ins dialog, click Add and navigate to the C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12\ADDINS folder. Select outbak.dll and click
OK. When you return to the COM Add-ins dialog, you should see a new entry,
Outlook Backup Addin, with its check box checked.
Click OK to close the COM Add-ins dialog.

Hummm. So much to backup a Outlook.pst file.
All I do is go to my Outlook Directory on C: and copy it to my backup drive and number it. 001.
Then when I restore my hd I just copy the latest back of Outlook.pst and copy it to to my C: Drive under Outlook directory.

His point is that the ability is there; not whether it's easier or not.
