Everything seems okay.
Installed OS (Win7 Professional 64-bit)
Installed Chipset drivers.
Ran Windows Update
Installed Graphics Card drivers - newest from website
Reboot - CRASH - have to boot in Safe Mode & restore to earlier version as system will no longer start properly.

Why? What did I do wrong?

Edit.
Until attempting to install the proper drivers, it would appear the system is using a default VGA adapter, and not seeing as PCI-e?
Are there special drivers to install for the PCI-e boards?

It is defaulting to the Standard VGA driver due to the inability to load drivers for the 5750. You aren't the only one that has issues with drivers and ATI (NVIDIA for that matter also)

Have you tried an older driver?...if there is one for that new card

Try booting to safe mode and then install the driver in the device manager.

Right click standard vga, update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Find and double click on the .inf (somewhere inside C:\ATI) then hit ok.

After it installs, reboot to Windows normal mode.

I did indeed try an older driver - the onewith the install CD - and it now works.
Cool.
I also did something else different - previously I was trying to fire up with 2 monitors, both connected (display was duplicated/cloned, of course) and this time the second screen was unplugged. Could that also make a difference, do you think?

Appreciate the advice re older drivers though. Thanks very much
