Xbox controller & Guitar Hero controller

I can't install the drivers for these controllers. I first plugged them in and both came up with the "downloading driver" window. But both stopped around 35% and reported that they had failed.
Using the device manager I tried to further prompt the download of these drivers, but soon after it says it is searching my system freezes and I have to hard reset. This is repeatable ad infinitum.

Funnily enough, this repeatable freeze happens with utorrent too. Utorrent runs for a few minutes at most, until everything hangs. Any ideas?

I think I may have found a common problem inherent in these problems... My Pluscom wireless PCI LAN adapter (with Ralink RT2561 chipset) doesn't seem to like 64bit. I've put Vista 64 on my machine to test it out and it is still replicating the same problems. So it's not W7!

It'll accept browsing connections to shared files from various computers but hangs as soon as the remote computer tries to open a file.
