Hi!

My Wifi button dosn't seen to work in Windows 7 Beta...it works fine in Vista but I can't run Vista on my Amilo Li1718 since its so slow...XP would be fine but it's the same problem whit wifi there...ok, I know it can be done but XP? naah...however, I've changed the settings in BIOS to activare wireless but that dosn't do the trick in Windows 7...I've downloaded two diffent copies of Launch Manager which is the software to controll the wifi button but none of them will even start in Windows 7 wich is a mystery to me...In my Vista install it the Launch Manager that controlls the wifi button...and it's installed and works fine in Vista

so, anyone who knows WHAT to do?

Could it be the UAC that prevents Launch Manager to start?
I've read that any Vista drivers/programs should work fine in Windows 7 but that dosn't seem to be tha case or have I downloaded the work program? (But I don't think so)

I have had Vista on this laptop for almost a year now...and i't driving me MAD...it's good-looking but you just can't do anything...it's so slow and when you reinstall Vista it's ok for a while then things are really getting nasty...and I'm cleaning the system up regulary...I wipe out all thoose autostart options every program seems to have now days...but ok, when you look at the memory and stuff...you know WHY i'ts slow but hey..I only use it for writing and surfing the net...keeping software to a minimum...

I have a other computer...a memory monster and it runs Vista like a pice of cake...its quite fast even for Vista...everyone seems to be amazed at the speed of it...it runs Vista and Mandriva 2008 in dualboot and that Mandriva thing is even faster...

I've tried to install both Mandriva and Ubunto on my laptop...works fine but no wifi...so I've skipped them...the POINT of having an laptop is wireless connection...not stuck to a cable...XP could possibly work but it feels like stoneage...

Windows 7 runs like clockwork on the laptop but no wifi...

WHY in gods name dont Fujitsu support ANYTHING but Vista...Vista is not made for cheap laptops with small memory size...anyone knows that!

I mean...HOW can you ship a laptop whit an operating system that needs twice the memory of witch it have???

Force the gadget-freaks out there to use UAC ???

I would not recommend turning UAC off. This is a security tool to protect your PC! :)

If the things you have to protect you is WORSE than the things it made to protect against...WHAT do you do then?

Whats the worst?

Having UAC that wont let you even delete a file without confirmation witch happens EVERY F*** DAY or get an infection of malware witch happens...well, I've had it two times last 6 months...and it took about two-three hours to clean the system up...so tell me...witch is WORST?

The F****** UAC is there every day and I hate it....

I actually have to ask for permission to move a file, open a program ON MY OWN COMPUTER!!!!

No way, Jose...

I'm for the malware, the virus or anything else that comes along!

Some thoughts regarding your post:
(Note: I'm currently running UAC set to Always Notify.)

File copy & UAC:
I'm copying a lot of files between several partitions and external disks, and never get bothered by UAC.
You might want to check your permission settings for those partitions/folders. Once set up properly, this should be a non-issue.

The only places where UAC kicks in are Windows system folders/files, and that I consider a VERY good thing.

Software & UAC:
Concerning that, you might want to try Bypass UAC for Standard Users. I'm running a couple of system utilities that way, and never had a problem so far.

Anyway, also here, UAC will only prompt if the program intends to make changes to the system. And also here, I'd say once configured properly, UAC shouldn't bother you during daily use.

And a final thought about your last line...
(no offence intended, just my humble opinion)

It's for exactly that attitude, that there are still that many vulnerable systems around. People that disable security features or don't feel the need to install security patches, updates, etc. just because it's inconvenient. How well this works, and how well those people are protected we can see on a daily base. Just look at the most recent case, the spread of Conficker. Well yeah, just my 2 Cents ;)

I'd like to add my two cents, too. The new Windows 7 UAC is MUCH more lenient and less intrusive than it was in Vista. But on my Vista machine, I never turned it off, despite there being thousands of web pages that tell you how to do it. That is one of the primary features that protects your OS from viruses, trojans, and other malware. In the period that I've had Vista (over 2 years), I have never been troubled by these dangerous pests, but back when I had XP, I was always getting infected no matter how careful my surfing and downloading habits were. And the situation gets worse every day...
This Microsoft page gives some general information about the new Vista feature called User Account Control:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/useraccountcontrol.mspx
Windows Vista: Features Explained: User Account Control
A brief quotation from that page:
User Account Control has been added to the Vista feature list in order to increase security by limiting the damage that can be introduced into the system by malware or by inadvertent mistakes made by users. Malware in the past have been able to take advantage of system level privileges to damage files, change system configurations, or transmit data outside the network.
User Account Control -- despite its annoyances -- is one of the new features of Vista that plays the largest part of protecting your operating system and pc from being compromised. With that disabled, any process that can get control of your computer runs at Administrator level, just as in most XP systems, where most users always used there Administrator account rather than a Standard User account. I have seen several computers where the user discovered that this annoying feature could be turned off, but they were having trouble and by the time I got to the machine I found it infested with hundreds of instances of spyware and even in one case a key logger...
For myself, I have chosen to keep it enabled, but am using a free program called TweakUAC to change its operation to "quiet" mode:
What is TweakUAC?

I read awhile back that unverified gadgets are a MAJOR source of security attacks and that's why UAC has (had) to be on to run them. I say had because gadgets work with UAC on for my 7022. Go figure.
